An Unplanned Evening That Led to Peace | A Visit to Charar-e-Sharief

Some of the best memories are never planned. The same happened yesterday.

I had left home intending to visit our apple orchard, where I had some important work that would have taken quite a while. As soon as I reached the market, one of my friends called and suggested that we go somewhere for an evening drive. Since I had already planned to work in the orchard, I told him that I would join him later if I could finish my work in time.

When I reached the road leading to our orchard, I found that the continuous rainfall had turned it into a muddy track. Since it is a steep uphill road, driving there became almost impossible. My car couldn’t make the climb, so I had no option but to turn back.

Instead, I went to another orchard in our village where my parents had also arrived. We spent some time there and filled a water storage tank so that it would be ready whenever we needed to spray pesticides or fungicides in the coming days. After finishing the work, I brought my parents back home.

By then, my friend had called several times. I quickly changed my clothes, picked up my car, and went to meet him. He had already asked me to bring the vehicle, and after picking up another friend, we finally started our journey.

Our initial plan was to drive to the town and enjoy some food together. However, while driving, someone suggested that instead of going to town, we should visit the shrine of Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (Nund Rishi) in Charar-e-Sharief. Since a shortcut from our village takes only about ten minutes, we immediately changed our route.

The road to Charar-e-Sharief passes through beautiful hilly terrain, so careful driving is essential. We reached the shrine just in time for the Maghrib prayer. We parked the car, performed ablution (wudu), and offered our prayers in the grand mosque beside the shrine.

Praying at this sacred place is a truly special experience. The atmosphere brings an indescribable sense of peace and contentment. As one of the most revered shrines in Kashmir, people from across the world come here to seek blessings and spiritual comfort.

The peaceful courtyard, the magnificent shrine, the historic khanqah, and the grand mosque together create an unforgettable scene, especially during the evening. Sitting there quietly, listening to the gentle sounds of birds and the prayers being recited, fills the heart with serenity. It feels as if every sincere prayer offered here rises straight to the heavens.

Whenever I visit this place, I never feel like leaving. My heart simply wants to remain there, spending more time in remembrance of Allah, reflecting in silence, and gazing at the beautiful shrine. The spiritual atmosphere here is truly unmatched and leaves every visitor with a deep sense of inner peace.
