SLC33-W3: My Community, My Story – Transportation in My Area

Comilla Railway Station is a very important communication hub in the transportation system of my area. I live in Comilla and use this station regularly as my office is in the capital, Dhaka. I find train travel much more comfortable, safe, and time-saving compared to road travel. Therefore, Comilla Railway Station has become an important part of my daily life for commuting to and from work. Every morning or at the scheduled time, the passengers are busy. Employees, students, businessmen, and people from different walks of life gather here to travel by train. The station has necessary facilities like ticket counters, a digital ticketing system, waiting rooms, and platforms, which make the journey easier for the passengers. The journey becomes more comfortable when the train runs on time. Since my office is at 10.00 am, I reach the station at 7.00 am.

I regularly travel by train from Comilla to the capital, Dhaka. While traveling by train, I can see the beautiful scenery of green nature, rivers, canals, fields, and villages outside the window, and I never realize when the long journey ends. I don't have to get stuck in long traffic jams like on buses, so it is possible to reach the office on time. The train is my first choice because of its comfortable seats, clean environment, and relatively safe travel.

Comilla Railway Station is connected not only with Dhaka but also with many other important regions of the country. Popular tourist areas like Chittagong and Cox's Bazar can be easily reached by train from here. A train is a great way to travel with family or friends on holidays. Traveling by train is always a pleasant experience to enjoy the mountains, sea, and natural beauty. This station also plays an important role in traveling to different parts of the country, including Sylhet.

Railways are one example of environmentally friendly transport systems. At the same time, since they can carry many passengers, fuel consumption is reduced, and the pressure on the roads is also reduced. Since the cost of traveling by train is also relatively affordable, it is a popular transport system for common people. Trains are a reliable means of transportation for students, employees, and lower- and middle-class families. I prefer railways the most for traffic-free travel. Especially in Dhaka city, I travel by metro rail.

The arrival of thousands of passengers every day has created employment opportunities for many people, including small shops, food stalls, rickshaw and autorickshaw drivers, around the station. Traders can easily transport various products from one place to another in the country. As a result, this station is not only making a significant contribution to passenger transport, but also to economic activities. Every afternoon, countless people come to the Comilla Railway Station with their families to visit. Today, I came to visit the railway station with my family.

However, there is scope for further development. If the cleanliness of the station is further improved, adequate seating arrangements are made on the platform, security is strengthened, train punctuality is ensured, and modern information services are introduced, the journey of passengers will be more comfortable. If new routes are introduced in the future and the number of trains increases, the importance of Comilla Railway Station will increase further. The most common means of transportation in my area are buses and trains. Local and long-distance buses from different parts of Comilla city provide easy access to different districts of the country. In addition, Comilla Railway Station is an important communication hub in the city, from where regular trains run to different parts of the country, including Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet. I use both buses and trains as needed, as they are safe, comfortable, and relatively affordable.

I use autorickshaws the most in my area. Because autorickshaws can easily navigate small roads and, in many cases, they can reach their destinations quickly, avoiding traffic jams. Besides, they are easily available and quite convenient for traveling short distances. So autorickshaws are my most used mode of transportation for daily commuting.

I would give my area's transportation system a score of 9/10 for affordability, 7/10 for safety, and 8/10 for convenience.

Affordable (9/10): Bus, train, and autorickshaw fares are within the reach of the common man. Especially long-distance travel by train can be done at a relatively low cost, so it is quite affordable.

Safe (7/10): Although train travel is generally safe, there is a risk of accidents on the road due to reckless driving, excessive speeding, and non-compliance with traffic rules. Therefore, I would give it a score of 7/10 for safety.

Convenient (8/10): Buses, trains, and autorickshaws are easily available in my area, and there is a good transportation system to different parts of the country. However, due to traffic jams, overcrowding at certain times, and sometimes having to wait for transportation, a full score cannot be given. Therefore, it is reasonable to give a score of 8/10 for convenience.

While using the transport system in my area, I and other commuters face some common problems. The biggest problem is the lack of safety and the risk of road accidents. Sometimes, some vehicles drive at excessive speed or do not follow traffic rules, which increases the risk of accidents. In addition, excessive crowding during peak hours also creates inconvenience for commuters.

I want the transport system to enforce traffic laws more strictly, increase driver awareness, and ensure regular vehicle fitness checks. In addition, if adequate surveillance and security measures are strengthened to ensure the safety of passengers, accidents will decrease, and travel will be safer and more comfortable for everyone.

I would advise any first-time visitor to my area to avoid local buses if possible. Local buses can be overcrowded, frequently changing passengers, and can be uncomfortable to travel on. Instead, trains, reliable bus services, or autorickshaws are relatively safe, comfortable, and easy to get to your destination on time. Also, knowing the route and fares before you travel will make your trip more convenient.
