SLC31-W2 | The Curious Explorer : Offbeat Landmarks.
I am happy to participate in the 2nd week of SLC season 31 . This week I am going to share a mosque of my city.
What kind of Offbeat Landmarks have you visited? Briefly introduce yourself.
I visited Aftabganj Central Jame Mosque in Dinajpur district, which is an offbeat or lesser known but extremely beautiful tourist spot. When you see this mosque from a distance, you can see its white dome and marble-like design, which is modeled after the famous Taj Mahal. This is an extraordinary work of art. A unique combination of white granite and brick with marble. Coming from any part of Dhaka or Bangladesh to Fulbari upazila of Dinajpur district, one can reach Aftabganj Bazar by renting an easy bike for 15-20 taka per person from Fulbari railway station or bus stand. On the way there, the mosque is visible from quite a distance. It looks like it was built following the design of the Taj Mahal in Agra, but the color, inner pulpit, and arches are made in a unique design.
Although this mosque is not very well known like other common tourist spots, its aesthetic architecture and environment attracted me and i deem this will amazed you too.
How were the activities, services and facilities at this place? (With pictures + prices, videos)
This is mainly used for prayers. Here, five daily prayers are offered regularly. On Fridays, many Musalli gather for Jumma prayers. Tourists can freely visit here. They can take pictures and enjoy the architecture. There is calm and peaceful environment. Many people come here to spend their quiet time.

- Small shops and food facilities nearby.
What did you learn about the history of that place?
I have come to know about this mosque that Aftabganj Central Jame Masjid is a beautiful mosque of modern times. It is known locally as an important religious center. This mosque was built by the famous Aftab family. It is known that a huge amount of money was spent on the construction of the mosque and it is designed in the style of the Taj Mahal, which makes it different from other mosques. It was built at a cost of about 50 crore taka. This mosque proves that it is possible to create something new by following historical architectural styles even in modern times. It mainly plays an important role as a religious and social center of the area. Although it is not an ancient mosque, its architectural style is made in imitation of historical Islamic architecture.
Share your experiences of that place as a Curious Explorer.
As a curious traveler, I found this place very wonderful and of course found this place special too. First of all, I was impressed by the beauty of the mosque. From a distance, it looks like a royal structure. You should visit this place as early as possible.
Secondly, since there were fewer crowds, I was able to enjoy the whole place in a very peaceful way. Such a peaceful environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city soothes the mind.
Thirdly, I got to know about the culture and lifestyle of the local people, which enriched my experience even more. All in all, Aftabganj Central Jame Masjid is a beautiful, calm and an offbeat tourist place that offers a unique experience.
