Explore and Review

Situated in the beautiful rural setting of Bhelumiya Union, a little away from the mainland of Bhola district, Bhola Kayaking Point is now a great place of tranquility for nature lovers like me. A few days ago, I visited this beautiful place myself. I got to know a lot of detailed information by talking directly to the manager of the spot. Below is my travel experience, pictures, and a realistic and informative review of the place:

1. A brief introduction to the place.

---

To me, Bhola Kayaking Point means a piece of peace away from the mechanical noise. It is basically built on a natural lake or canal located in Bhelumia, Sadar Upazila of Bhola. This kayaking spot was started by some local enterprising youth. I think this is one of the best kayaking initiatives in the Bhola district to take a break from urban brick-and-mortar life and float in a kayak boat in the calm waters.

2. The exact location and how to get there.

---

• Exact location: Canal/Lake adjacent to Velumia Bazar, Velumia Union, Bhola Sadar, Bangladesh.

• Transportation: Basically, my own house is in Velumia, so it only takes 5 taka auto rickshaw fare to go from my house to the kayaking point. However, if anyone from outside wants to come here, the transportation system is quite easy and hassle-free. For this, first, a local auto rickshaw is available from Bhola Sadar to go directly to Bhelumia Bazar. It costs about 35 taka per person to reach Bhelumia Bazar and it takes about half an hour. Then, just walk 2 minutes from the market pier and you will see the kayaking point.

3. The history or specialty of the place (if known).

---

There is no ancient historical story behind this place, but there are some great initiatives behind its current form. After entering through the main gate of the kayaking point, the visitors are immediately struck by the wonderful and neat arrangement of seating.

When I entered, I saw that the seating area was decorated with colorful tree trunks. I found this natural interior decoration of wooden floors below and bamboo fences on the sides very unique. Just to the left of the entrance is the manager or office room, where Hasib Bhai manages the entire spot. Hasib Bhai himself is involved in the Bangladesh Tour and Tourism Association.

In my opinion, one of the biggest specialties and attractions of this spot is the wonderful wooden Floating Love Point made on the water of the lake. This wooden bridge and love sign placed on a plastic drum on the water sways lightly in the wind, which is great to see. Tourists come here to take pictures and enjoy the pleasure.

4. The natural beauty, environment, and overall atmosphere.

Talking to the manager Mr. Hasib Bhai and comparing his own experiences, a wonderful truth came to light. Hasib Bhai was saying that many visitors may feel a little bored when they first come and see the place and think it is very ordinary. But the real magic begins after taking a kayak or boat to the middle of the lake.

When I myself went to the middle of the lake with a canoe in hand, I got a wonderful, real feeling of the gentle breeze, open sky, and quiet rural environment around. The thick green grass and the shadows of the rows of trees on both sides of the lake take on an otherworldly form. The environment is so enchanting to me that I think once I get on here, I don't want to come down. The manager said that many times, even after the allotted time has passed, customers want to spend more time there by paying extra money.

The gentle breeze blowing through the silver water and the calm and serene environment around are truly extraordinary. When viewed from a distance, the lake water looks like a calm mirror, where the reflection of the sky is visible. Along with locals, many tourists, various professional biker groups, and groups of friends from different parts of the country, such as Mymensingh and other districts, come here to visit.

5. Sightseeing spots, interesting structures or notable points.

From my experience, the further you go inland with a kayak boat, the more beautiful rural scenery you will see. However, the main attractions and structures here are:

• A beautiful floating love point made of wood and a water bridge made of plastic pontoons.

• An indoor seating area made of colorful tree trunks and natural materials.

• A variety of colorful kayaks and paddleboats anchored at the lake's pier.

• The Bhelumia Bridge on the lake, from where you can get a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire kayaking point.

6. Your own travel experience and feelings.

When I first sat down on the kayak boat in the soft afternoon light and held the paddle in my hand, all the fatigue inside me seemed to disappear in an instant. As I cut through the calm water of the lake on the yellow hull of the kayak boat, the scene of kayaking from behind the banana groves hanging on the banks of the canal and the leaves of the rural trees brought me a strange peace.

The natural view taken from the middle of the kayaking point is much more beautiful and captivating than being captured in the camera frame, which cannot be felt without going there. The open sky above my head and the touch of calm water below—I spent one of the best and most relaxing afternoons of my life here. However, many things are not clear in the picture that can be understood directly.

7. Cleanliness, safety and facilities for visitors.

---

Overall, the lake water and its surroundings were quite clean. There was hardly any plastic waste in the lake water, which I found very positive. However, I think that if the accumulated garbage in some places could be cleaned more regularly, the place would be better.

Before starting kayaking, they make tourists wear mandatory life jackets, which is clearly visible in the pictures. The boats are quite stable and safe, and the vigilance of the life guards took away my fear.

There are nice shade trees for sitting and some small local shops nearby. However, in my opinion, it is the need of the hour to provide a good changing room or modern washroom for tourists.

• Timings: It remains open daily from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM. However, I highly recommend visiting after 04:00 PM to enjoy the best weather and sunset views.

9. Mention of suitable places for photography or video recording.

---

In my opinion, the best place for a photo is the wooden floating Love Point swinging on the water of the lake. If you stand on the orange plastic docking bridge right in front of it and take a picture, the heart-shaped structure in the background stands out beautifully.

In addition, I found the best experience to be sitting in a kayak boat and taking pictures of the front of the kayak and the water of the lake from my perspective, or taking pictures of the calm appearance of the lake from behind the leaves of the coconut trees next to the ghat. Especially if you shoot a video during the Golden hour during sunset, it looks very cinematic.

10. Suitability for traveling with family, friends, or children.

I think it's a perfect spot for a group outing with friends or a kayaking competition. It's also a great place to spend some quiet time with the family. Especially for young children, there are interesting rides like Doraemon Riders that kids will enjoy a lot. However, in my opinion, if you have young children with you, you should be a little extra careful while kayaking and stand and check if their life jackets are properly worn.

11. Necessary tips and precautions for travelers.

I would like to give some small tips from my experience: do not move or jump excessively after getting on the boat, as this can cause loss of balance. Be careful when taking pictures with your phone or camera, because it can fall into the water due to carelessness. And the most important thing is that for our happiness, there should be no harm to nature; please do not throw packets of chips or plastic bottles into the lake.

12. Personal evaluation and brief reasons for the place with a score of 0/10.

Considering everything, I would give this place a 9.5/10 out of 10 in my personal assessment.

Reason: The diverse facilities like Doraemon Riders, Paddle Boats, Kayaking, and Floating Love Point at such a low cost and the sincere treatment of the manager, Hasib Bhai have won my heart. However, the reason for giving a slightly lower rating is that there is a lack of improved washrooms for tourists, and I think some parts of the lake need to be cleaned a little more.

13. Conclusion: Your opinion on why others should visit the place.

---

I will say this, this kayaking point is not just a place to roam around; it is a wonderful refuge to take a breath of relief from the monotony of mechanical life. If you keep an eye on their Facebook page Bhola Kayaking Point, you can also get regular offers. I think the local residents of Bhola or those who are thinking of visiting Bhola from outside should come to this kayaking point in Velumiya at least once to spend some time close to nature and have a great kayaking experience. I believe, this beautiful place in your area will not disappoint you at all.
