Today, I am making fried rice using leftover rice; it is delicious, quick to prepare, and healthy. Here are the ingredients I used:
Leftover boiled rice
Capsicum (bell pepper)
Onion
Cabbage
One tablespoon of oil
Salt
Chili
A little garam masala
Coriander leaves

Method for making fried rice
First, I chopped the onion, capsicum, and cabbage into small pieces and placed a kadhai (wok) on the stove.

I added a spoonful of oil, and once it was hot, I added the onions and sautéed them until golden brown. Sautéing them until golden removes the raw taste.

- Then, I added the chopped capsicum. I let it cook briefly—just a couple of minutes—because we don't want the capsicum to turn mushy; we want to keep it crunchy.

I also added the chopped cabbage and mixed all three vegetables together. After stirring for about 5 minutes, I added salt and red chili powder, followed by the leftover boiled rice, and mixed everything thoroughly.

Once everything was well combined, I added garam masala and gave it another good stir. After mixing it all together, I transferred the fried rice to a plate and garnished it with coriander leaves. I also served it with some green chilies and onions on the side; my children really love eating onions with fried rice.
The Story Behind It |
|---|
I make fried rice quite often because it is quick to prepare—requiring minimal time and ingredients—and results in a healthy dish that children enjoy eating. It is truly a wonderful recipe. Whenever we cook, there is often some food left over—having leftover rice is quite common—and children usually don't want to eat the same dal-chawal (lentils and rice) again. So, we use it to make fried rice; this way, the children consume vegetables without realizing it, enjoy the tasty meal, and it saves me time since the dish comes together very quickly.
Smart Storage Tips |
|---|
To prevent food from spoiling, it is essential to know the right storage methods—especially for items like fruits and vegetables.
To keep them from wilting in the heat, we store fruits and vegetables in separate bags inside the refrigerator; this preserves their freshness and prevents them from going limp.
Another tip is to buy fruits and vegetables in quantities that match our household consumption. If we stock up on a week's worth of produce—or certainly a month's supply—some of it is bound to spoil, no matter how carefully we store it.
In summer, boil milk twice to prevent it from curdling, as milk often spoils quickly during the hot season.
If a dish isn't appealing to eat in its original form, you can transform it into something new; this prevents food waste while offering a different flavor profile and creating a fresh dish.
By paying attention to these small details, we can effectively prevent our food from going to waste.

This is a smart and practical recipe. Fried rice is one of the best ways to turn leftovers into a fresh meal. I enjoyed reading the story behind it, especially how the children happily eat vegetables in this dish. The final presentation looks very appetizing. Thanks for sharing. 😊
