Today marks the 25th wedding anniversary of my friend, Raksha Garg. We all share a wonderful bond with her; my husband and children, in particular, get along with her exceptionally well. We were all incredibly excited about her 25th wedding anniversary celebration. I had sent her a congratulatory message right at midnight. When I checked her WhatsApp status, I saw that they had exchanged garlands in their room and cut the cake exactly at 12:00 AM. I wished her right then and there, and by the morning, I had received her "like" and a "thank you" in response.

The invitation card had arrived via WhatsApp two or three days prior. Since it falls on a Thursday—a day off for us—we decided to close our shop early in the evening. The venue is located nearby, and the family had specifically emphasized that everyone—the entire family—must attend. We certainly couldn't leave the children out of the party. As we pondered what gift to give—since on an anniversary, one typically gives a gift to both the husband and wife—I remembered I had a bedsheet set kept aside at home. I took it out and had it wrapped in gift paper.

The invitation was for 6:00 PM, indicating that a Bhajan Sandhya (evening of devotional singing) would take place, followed by dinner. My husband remarked, "The invitation says 6:00 PM, but given the intense heat, nothing is likely to start before 8:00." I agreed, noting, "That’s true. Although they have an air-conditioned hall, their family is quite large, so it’s bound to take a while for everyone to gather." We left our home at 8:10 PM and reached the venue within ten minutes.

The Bhajan Sandhya had already begun by the time we arrived. Upon entering the hall, we noticed that very few people had shown up, leaving plenty of empty space. Perhaps because of the devotional nature of the Bhajan Sandhya, not many guests had arrived at that early stage. We sat there for a short while until we were informed that the snacks were ready. We headed over to enjoy the snacks; after finishing them, I returned to my seat, sat for a bit, and enjoyed the Bhajan Sandhya. After that, the Aarti took place; by the time it concluded, it was already 9 PM. The crowd kept swelling, and it felt as though the hall itself was becoming too small to accommodate everyone. Given the sheer number of people, the air conditioning wasn't proving effective. So, after bowing my head in reverence during the Aarti, we stepped back outside. We did this because the suffocation inside was intense; it was simply impossible to remain in the hall any longer.

A short while later, the ring ceremony took place, followed by the exchange of garlands (Jaimala), and finally, the cake cutting—it was great fun. However, standing amidst such a massive crowd in the heat was becoming quite difficult. Even inside the air-conditioned room, everyone was breaking into a sweat. So, as soon as these functions wrapped up and the photo session began in earnest, I stepped out into the open area. I did this because I was feeling stifled inside. Once I had relaxed a bit, we had our dinner and then went up to the stage to get some photos taken.

We had a fantastic time at the party. Since everyone there was an acquaintance, we formed a small group and sat together for quite a while—chatting, joking, and laughing—which was a truly delightful experience. My friend Raksha's 25th wedding anniversary turned out to be a wonderful celebration. Let me share a little incident: during the ring ceremony, Raksha's friends playfully suggested that her husband should get down on one knee to place the ring on her finger. However, since he is a bit heavy-set, Raksha took the initiative herself; she got down on her knees and placed the ring on her husband's finger instead. It was a beautiful moment; a husband and wife truly understand each other's physical limitations—knowing whether or not the other person would be able to kneel down—and that kind of mutual understanding is truly essential. All in all, the party was awesome!
