Pencil portrait drawing of Leonard DiCaprio
Hello wonderful Steemians,
I hope you are all doing great and you are all having a great week. Today, I am excited to share another portrait drawing from my sketchbook. This time, I decided to create a pencil portrait sketch of the famous Hollywood actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. Portrait drawing is one of my favorite artistic exercises because it allows me to study facial structures, shading techniques, and realistic details. For this artwork, I challenged myself to capture both the likeness and elegance of this well-known actor using only graphite pencils. I will walk you through the stages I followed to complete the drawing.
Materials Used
• A4 paper
• mechanical pencil
• HB, 3B, 4B, and 6B pencils
• charcoal pencil
• black pen
• eraser
• sharpener
Drawing process
Step 1
First, I began by refining the facial features. I worked on the eyes first because they are usually the most expressive part of a portrait. I gradually added shadows around the eyelids and eyebrows to create depth.
Step 2
After that, I then moved to the nose and lips and also shaded the face as well.
Step 3
This stage involved working on the hair. Since Leonardo's hair was neatly combed backward, I used controlled pencil strokes that followed the direction of the hair strands. Instead of shading the entire area at once, I built the darker values gradually.
Step 4
After completing that part, I shifted my attention to the clothing. I used heavier shading techniques to build contrast between the dark suit and the lighter areas of the shirt.
Step 5
At the final stage, I reviewed the entire drawing and made several corrections. I deepened some shadows, refined a few facial features, and cleaned up unnecessary sketch lines. Below is my final result.
My selfie with my drawing
After several hours of work, I was happy to see the portrait come together. The combination of facial details, hair texture, and suit shading helped create a realistic representation of Leonardo DiCaprio. Although there is always room for growth, I am pleased with the outcome and the lessons learned throughout the process. Thank you all for stopping by to view my work; I look forward to sharing more drawings with you all.

Hey,
We’ve developed a new platform for Steemit called Blazedit, designed to make the experience simpler, faster, and more engaging for users. (https://blazedit-new.netlify.app/). A mobile version will be soon available on apple store and google play store.
We’re excited to release the alpha version for everyone to try out and provide feedback. The platform is still under active development, and while there are a few bugs we’re working on fixing, the core features are already in place.
