Share your thoughts about MOTHER

Every morning before sunrise, my mother used the same old blue lunch box to pack me lunch. She never failed to include a note that was always hand written. In some occasions she would write, "Be nice." At other times, "Believe in yourself." At that age, I was not bothered. I only cared about the lunch that came with the note.

Life was now hectic. I went to university, got employment and established a successful career in another town. Phone calls and visits were becoming less frequent. Every time I was promising to spend more time with my mother "next month."

It was on one rainy evening when the phone rang. My mother was hospitalized. It was just one thought running in my head, "Please give me another chance."

She lived, but her mind began to wane away. Some days she would know me, and some days she wouldn’t. One day during a visit, she gave me an old blue lunch box.

“I made this for my little boy,” she whispered with a warm smile.

It contained no food, only hundreds of small folded pieces of paper. Each one was something that she wanted to tell me all her life but never got to say. I unfolded one.

“Success will make people admire you. Kindness will make them remember you.”

Another note read,

“Even though you are now stronger than me, never feel embarrassed to come for a hug.”

I could not hold back the tears. For all those years, I thought that my mother was simply making me meals. But in truth, she was preparing my heart for life.

Months later when she left us, I did not put the lunchbox in my showcase along with trophies and awards. During the time I felt hard pressed for something, I read a note of hers which somehow gave me the answer that I was looking for.

One would usually say that her biggest gift is giving birth. However, her greatest gift is that she teaches us to live even after her departure.

The lunchbox soon started to show signs of wear and tear, yet I did not exchange it for a new one. There are things that are simply priceless due to what they carry – not food, not paper, but love that will never fade.

Conclusion: The love of a mother is not defined only by her great sacrifice. It is reflected in the everyday moments that will make our character forever. We can grow up but we will never be bigger than her teachings.
