I watched people rushing and families saying goodbyes as I got down from the cab. I remember sitting at Canberra airport, the air filled with a gentle hush that only airports have between flights. I watched the small airplanes through the broad glass, at a short distance since Canberra is not an international airport.

I could see at distant these planes when I could feel a soft breeze from the terminal’s vents and when I looked at the canteen the mixed scents of coffee and warm bread.

I brought a cup and held it in both my hands, feeling the warmth against the cool morning.

People moved around me in little stories families, solo travelers, I could see a couple eating ess but talking more. I could see a group laughing softly over shared memories.

I felt both part of that flow and quietly apart, my thoughts drifting to home, remembring the familiar lanes of Delhi. The green of the parks where I walk, the faces I would soon see even if that's not as attractive as what I feel in Canberra but home is home after all.

Then it happened as someone announced a gate change, I guess I missed the announcement in the beginning so when the airline officer told me to change the gate I smiled and moved from there to another gate.

Oh yes, I felt a hectic ripple of activity passed through the waiting crowd all in a hurry though. I took out my phone and captured the scene, not because it was dramatic, but because it was honest, ordinary and complete.

I felt as a stillness fill me and the time stopped for a moment. Boarding had started and flight would soon leave for Melbourne and then I would board the next from there to Delhi.

I felt a mix of excitement and quiet nerves on my way to Melbourne from Canberra. Outside the window, the runway looked long and empty, ready for the flight.

When the plane took off, I felt a the city below became small, houses and roads turning into tiny shapes. I thought of the things I would do in Melbourne, meeting the sales tax officer and take the refund for my new laptop, food and this made me feel excited.

Inside the plane I felt a little lonely, thinking of home and the familiar streets of my city waiting for me. I felt curious and open, ready for new places and new stories. I knew my photos will be dull in India as the environment is different but the home is home and there is no denial in that.

By the time we began to land, my nerves had settled into a warm, steady excitement. I was ready to step out and take the next plane from Melbourne back home.

The journey from Canberra to Melbourne felt calm and curious even if I was a bit nervous but soon the plane reached Melbourne as I could see the city shrank below. The thoughts of India mingled with plans for new experiences, and by landing I felt ready for my next flight.
