Hello wonderful Steemians, I hope everyone is having a great day. Today, I am excited to share my entry for the "Paint Your Feelings ✨🎨 Art & Drawing Contest Week 1". This contest immediately caught my attention because it encourages artists to express emotions through creativity, and that is one of the things I enjoy most about drawing. For this piece, I created a pencil portrait of a beautiful young woman wearing a gentle smile with her eyes peacefully closed. The expression felt warm, relaxed, and full of quiet happiness. In this tutorial, I will walk you through the steps I followed to complete this portrait using nothing but pencils.

Drawing items

• A4 paper

• mechanical pencil

• HB, 3B, 4B, and 6B pencils

• charcoal pencil

• black pen

• blending tissue

• sharpener

• eraser

Step 1

The first stage was lightly sketching the basic structure of the portrait. I carefully mapped out the head shape, shoulders, hairline, and positions of the facial features.

Step 2

After that, I refined the eyes, nose, lips, and eyebrows. I also started building tonal values using graphite pencils. I worked gradually, adding layers of shading to create smooth transitions between light and dark areas.

Step 3

Next, I focused on the hair aspect; the flowing curls added movement and character to the portrait. I spent a considerable amount of time layering dark tones and fine strands to achieve a realistic texture. The flower-shaped earrings were another small detail that I loved working on.

Step 4

Next, I worked on the dress. I added soft folds to the clothing and used darker tones to define the shadows, helping the figure stand out from the background. I also shaded the neck as well.

Step 5

The final stage involved refining edges, strengthening dark areas, and cleaning unwanted pencil marks. I carefully adjusted the contrast to make the facial features more prominent while maintaining the soft and peaceful mood of the portrait. Then my drawing was now complete.

This portrait was a wonderful experience to create. What I love most about it is the emotion it conveys. The closed eyes and gentle smile create a feeling of inner peace, reminding us to appreciate life's quiet moments. Thank you for visiting my post and following my drawing process. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and have a wonderful day.

I'd love to invite @joshrone, @roohiasif99, @tempestinyang, and @lunasilver.
