The Diary Game || 30- 04- 26|| Sketching Designs for a Duplex Project
Today I worked on a building design for a client who wanted a six-bedroom duplex and asked that the building itself shouldn’t be more than 16 by 16 meters. He already told me some things he needed, like making all the rooms ensuite and adding an ante lounge, but he still gave me freedom to design it my own way. Instead of just coming up with one idea, I decided to sketch out three different options so he can choose what fits him best.
While working on the design, I paid attention to how people would move around the house and use the space. I made sure not to overcrowd the 16 by 16 meters, and I arranged key areas like the kitchen, staircase, and maid’s room close to each other for easy movement. This way, whether it’s the madam or the maid cooking, it’s easier to move between spaces without stress. I also tried to maintain some level of privacy by controlling access to the family lounge, using the ante lounge and small lobbies to guide where guests can go. In addition, I placed the visitor’s toilet close to the entrance so guests don’t have to go deep into the house before using it.
Instead of sticking to just one layout, I explored different ideas across the three sketches. Each one had a different arrangement of spaces, especially in how the rooms, staircase, and lounges were positioned. I did this so the client would have options to choose from based on what fits his lifestyle best. Personally, I had a favorite among them, but the main goal was to give him flexibility and not limit the design to just one approach
With the sketches done, the next step is to develop the chosen design into a proper CAD drawing for better presentation and detailing. This will help refine the design and prepare it for actual construction. Feel free to share your thoughts on the designs, I’d love to hear different opinions. I also enjoy working on residential designs like this and I’m open to similar building projects as I continue improving my skills
