Wali Nanggroe's Visit to Disaster Sites Ensures Optimal Handling of Aceh Flood and Landslide Victims
Banda Aceh – The Wali Nanggroe Aceh, His Excellency Tgk. Malik Mahmud Al Haythar, conducted a direct visit to several areas affected by the hydrometeorological disaster in Aceh to ensure that the community's condition following the floods and landslides received serious attention and handling from the government.
The Head of the Cooperation and Public Relations Division of Wali Nanggroe, Zulfikar Idris, in a statement in Banda Aceh on Wednesday (May 6, 2026), stated that the visit took place in Aceh Tamiang Regency on May 3, 2026, and continued to Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, Indonesia, on May 4, 2026.
In Pante Perlak Village, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency, the Wali Nanggroe personally inspected the evacuation site for residents who are still awaiting relocation to temporary housing (huntara). On that occasion, the Wali Nanggroe held a dialogue with the victims of the floods and landslides that struck the area last year.
The Wali Nanggroe urged residents who had received temporary housing to move in immediately, while those still in the relocation process were asked to patiently await the completion of construction by the government.
"For those who have received temporary housing built by the government, please move in immediately. For those still in the relocation process, we ask for patience. We hope the government can quickly complete all housing construction for our brothers and sisters. All of this requires a process so that we can rebuild together," said the Wali Nanggroe.
In addition to inspecting the evacuation sites, the Wali Nanggroe also visited the Krueng Meureudu area and community agricultural land in Pidie Jaya Regency. He was welcomed by the Regent of Pidie Jaya, Sibral Malasyi, along with members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) and local government officials.
During the visit, the Wali Nanggroe emphasized the importance of maintaining traditional values, environmental sustainability, and strengthening the agricultural sector in regional development. According to him, the agricultural sector is the mainstay of the Acehnese economy and must be a priority in the post-disaster recovery process.
He also emphasized that the government's serious attention to the living conditions of the affected communities is essential for a more rapid and sustainable economic recovery.
"The government must pay serious attention to the community's livelihood issues so that their economic conditions can improve. I will also convey this issue to the government," said Wali Nanggroe.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Pidie Jaya, Sibral Malasyi, explained that the regional government has undertaken various post-flood rehabilitation and reconstruction measures, including repairing national roads, provincial roads, and access to residential areas.
However, he acknowledged that several areas remain unaddressed. He stated that the threat of flooding continues to loom large for communities living around the Krueng Meureudu River due to worsening river sedimentation.
"If it rains even slightly heavier, the water immediately overflows into residential areas. The Krueng Meureudu River is currently only about two to three meters deep from residential areas due to very thick sedimentation. Therefore, river dredging must continue," said Sibral Malasyi.
The visit is part of the Wali Nanggroe's commitment to ensuring that disaster-affected communities receive ongoing attention, protection, and recovery support to accelerate the social and economic recovery of the Acehnese people.[]
