kholahati Cottage Industry and Trade Fair 2026

1.What recent social and/or cultural events have taken place in your community?

---

Recently, like every year, the traditional Cottage Industry and Trade Fair has started again near my area. This year, the fair is being held at Kholahati, which is close to Parbatipur. Although the fair is very near Parbatipur, it is officially located in Badarganj Upazila. The entire fair is being managed and supervised by the Bangladesh Army from the Parbatipur Kholahati Cantonment, making the event well-organized, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

If you want to visit the fair, you can easily travel from Parbatipur Railway Station or the Bus Terminal. The bus fare is only 30 BDT, so it is affordable for most visitors. The fair is located beside the main road, which makes it easy to find and adds to its beauty. I really enjoyed visiting this fair because of its pleasant atmosphere and excellent management.

2.What cultural initiatives are being promoted by community or government organizations in your area for the coming months?

---

During this time of the year, many cultural activities are organized in my local area. One of the biggest attractions is the traditional fair. This year, two fairs are being held near Parbatipur. The one I talked about is taking place in Kholahati, while another fair is being organized in the Bhabanipur area. These fairs bring joy to people of all ages and create a lively atmosphere.

Besides the fairs, several sports events are also being organized on local playgrounds. Different teams are taking part in football tournaments, and many people gather to enjoy the matches. A few days ago, our community also celebrated the Hindu religious festival Rath Yatra, which was arranged in our area. These cultural and community activities help bring people together and make this season more enjoyable.

3.What challenges are cultural event organizers currently facing in keeping local traditions alive?

---

In my opinion, many of our traditional cultural values are slowly disappearing. Nowadays, many people are more focused on making money than preserving our traditions. Because of this, some fair organizers include activities that are not part of our real culture, such as loud music, lottery games, and other entertainment that attracts large crowds.

During the fair, I noticed that attractive prizes are announced every day to encourage people to buy lottery tickets. Many visitors spend their money hoping to win something, but most of them leave without any reward. I feel that these activities take attention away from the real purpose of the fair, which should be to celebrate local culture, handicrafts, and community traditions.

I believe fairs should focus more on preserving our heritage and providing healthy entertainment for families. If organizers give more importance to cultural programs instead of money-making activities, the younger generation can learn about our traditions and enjoy the fair in a better and more meaningful way.

4.What social or grassroots movements are gaining prominence in the streets of your city or region?

---

In my area, a strong community campaign against drug addiction is becoming more active. Local mosques, temples, and community centers are organizing awareness programs to encourage people to stay away from drugs. They also ask community members to report anyone who is caught using or selling illegal drugs so that the matter can be handled by the police.

Another important goal of these programs is to protect young people from drug addiction. Community leaders explain how drugs can damage a person's health, future, and family life. I think these awareness campaigns are very helpful because they encourage young people to make better choices and build a safer community.

5.Could you mention any recent artistic works or projects in your region that might be of public interest?

---

In my area, a Cottage Industry and Trade Fair was organized recently to promote local culture, creativity, and handmade products. Many local artists and skilled craftspeople are displaying their creative work and handmade items. It is a great opportunity for them to introduce their talent and products to the public.

The stalls are arranged in neat rows around the fair, making it easy for visitors to walk around and explore them. Many people enjoy looking at the handmade products, and some buy them to decorate their homes or use them in their daily lives. I think this fair is a wonderful way to support local artists and encourage creativity.

In my country, large fairs can sometimes cause environmental pollution. Many food stalls are set up, and after eating, some people throw plastic bottles, cups, and other waste on the ground instead of using dustbins. This makes the fair area dirty and harms the environment.

Many shops cook food throughout the day, and the smoke from cooking mixes with the air. There are also many amusement rides running during the fair, and they produce loud noise. In addition, circus shows and magic shows are held in large tents where loudspeakers are used at a high volume. This creates noise pollution and can disturb nearby people.

However, after the fair ends, the Bangladesh Army cleans the entire area and restores it to its previous condition. I appreciate this effort because it helps keep the place clean and protects the surrounding environment.
