They wanted a design that would be innovative, as well as a large-scale structure that would be suitable for the climate of the region. The design was very challenging to build according to the plan. They designed an unusual concrete structure for the roof of the station building, as well as a structure that had an umbrella-like shape. The shape combines a row of interconnected structures facing downwards. The outline of the terminal creates a rhythmic pattern of gradually tapering and arched shells that evoke a tropical climate. From a distance, it looks like an umbrella protecting from the monsoon rain.
