Our Surroundings: Let´s Talk About The News

The Manikdi Bazar area of ​​Dhaka city is developing into a bustling commercial center day by day. Recently, a new business establishment has been opened in Manikdi Bazar, which has become the main center of attraction for animal and pet lovers in the entire area—Krishighor Pet, Bird & Aquarium Shop. The joy is that the shop is being run by a very close friend of mine, Md. Al-Amin.

I visited my friend Al-Amin's shop on July 22, 2026, at 5:30 pm. The distance from my house to Manikdi Bazar is about 1 kilometre. I reached there by ordinary rickshaw, which took only 5 minutes.

Shop Environment and Field Workers

The shop is open from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day.

The shop sells an average of 35,000 to 45,000 taka (approx. 7128 STEEM to 9164 STEEM) per day.

Al-Amin and his employees get lunch and necessary rest from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

Al-Amin has installed a modern CCTV surveillance system throughout the shop for security.

Medicines, cat food, seed mixes, and showpieces are neatly arranged inside the shop. However, when a sudden rush of customers arrives during the afternoon peak hour, it becomes a bit difficult to handle it single-handedly.

1. Has any business or establishment opened or closed in your region? What is its name? What do you think about it?

Yes, a new pet shop called Krisighar Pet, Bird and Aquarium Shop has recently been opened in our Manikdi Bazar area, owned by my dear friend Md. Al-Amin.

In my opinion, earlier, people in our area had to travel a difficult route of 4-5 kilometers to buy colorful fish or bird cages, or even good quality cat food or seed mixes. Opening such a well-equipped shop in the Al-Amin area has done a great service to the local pet lovers. The average daily sales of 35,000 to 45,000 taka show how popular the shop is among the people of the area.

2. What products are currently on sale in your region? How can this benefit the community?

All the accessories for animals and aquariums are available at Krisighar Pet, Bird, and Aquarium Shop. Al-Amin's smiling face is visible as soon as you enter the shop. The shop has premium seed mixes, sunflower seeds, rice, and wheat (which are arranged in separate wooden boxes); cat food (Envoy, SmartHeart); pet shampoo; medicines; and clay pots. There are also aquariums with water plants, goldfish, koi carp, opaline gourami fish, and beautiful pigeons and birds kept in cages outside.

Community benefits:

• Easy availability: The necessary food and medicines for cats, birds, or fish are now available under one roof.

• Mental peace: A few colorful fish swimming or birds calling at home make people forget all the fatigue in their minds in an instant.

• Human development of children: It is playing a great role in teaching children love and responsibility towards animals beyond their mobile addiction.

3. What products do you want to buy right now? How much do they cost? Why do you want to buy them?

Since Al-Amin is a close friend of mine and the quality of his shop's products is excellent, I would like to buy a pair of beautiful opaline gouramis and goldfish and 1 kg of birdseed mix from the shop in a wooden box.

Product details and price:

• 1 pair of opaline Gourami and Goldfish: 400 taka (81.47 STEEM)

• 1 kg of premium seed mix food: 200 taka (40.73 STEEM)

Total cost: BDT 600 taka (122.20 STEEM)

Why I want to buy: I really like the calmness of gourami and goldfish and the sight of them swimming in the aquarium. And the fresh seed mix kept in the wooden box seemed like it would do a great job for the health of the birds.

4. What kind of store or business do you think your region needs? How would it benefit the community?

I think we need to establish an Organic Veterinary Care and Pet Clinic (Pet Clinic & Animal Care) in our Manikadi area now.

Community Benefits:

Many people in Manikadi are now raising cats, birds, and fish. Although general medicine, vitamins, or saline are available at Al-Amin's shop, if the pet is seriously ill, there is no good veterinary doctor nearby. If there were a specific clinic, it would have been easier to ensure emergency medical care.

5. How has the adoption of cryptocurrencies been in businesses or establishments in your region?

The direct use of cryptocurrencies in general shops in Bangladesh is not yet implemented. The Manikadi market mainly accepts payments through cash and bKash/Nagad. However, young entrepreneurs like Al-Amin are positive about crypto technology. They are interested in accepting crypto payments in the future if there is government approval and facilities.

Environmental Impact:

The environment inside the shop is quite clean. The aquarium water is kept clean by using water filters, and bird waste is cleaned regularly. The presence of CCTV cameras makes it easier to ensure the overall environment and security of the shop.
