2026 IPL | Waited for 18 years, now RCB are back-to back Champions
Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
Well, it's been almost a week after the 2 months of excitement and action in IPL 2026. Well, you know, Virat Kohli and RCB fans waited 18 years to lift their maiden IPL Championship. Anyhow, under the new captaincy of Rajat Patidar, they have done it for consecutive times. What a turnaround for the team that was mocked and for Kohli, who had carried the burden for years.
Well, a few weeks ago, I shared a small update of the season. And from the start, it was energetic and full of exciting moments.
After 70 Group stage matches, you can see how the Point Table turned out. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals advanced to the next round.
In the Qualifier one, RCB beat GT easily by 92 runs to secure the first spot in the finals. In the Eliminator, RR defeated SRH, but they lost to GT in Qualifier Two.
So, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans advanced to the big night. Both teams had won once before, and clearly, they were the top two teams throughout the tournament.
IPL Finals
Everything was set at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. RCB won the toss and elected to field.
As usual, RCB ballers were right on top from the start. Especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hazlewood got rid of in-form Gill, and Sai early. And Rasikh Salam Dar and Krunnal Pandya also carried a tight ship. Only Washington Sundar played a good inning for GT with a half-century. So, it was just 155/8 for GT in their 20 overs.
With a comfortable target, RCB was attacking from the start, and once again, Kohli made an exceptional chasing inning, scoring 75 runs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the match easily by 5 wickets with 2 overs remaining. So, they became the champions once again.
Overall Stats
So, from March 28 to May 31, we witnessed the 18th IPL season with record-breaking performances and unforgettable memories. So, let's see the overall stats here.
As the Champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won ₹20 crore (US$2.1 million), and for the Runners-Up, Gujarat Titans won ₹12.5 crore (US$1.3 million).
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the wonder kid of 15 years old, is the biggest highlight of the season. It's not being a kid, but standing against all the star players and winning all the top batting awards, including Most Valuable Player, Orange Cap for most runs, Emerging player of the season, most sixes and also with the highest batting strike rate. This is just crazy, and he has already received the call for the national team.
In 16 matches, he scored 776 runs withh and verage of 48.50 and a strike rate of 237.31, including 63 fours and 72 sixes. And he has a century and 5 half-centuries to his name in this season. It's not just scoring runs but doing it fast, against all the top-class players. It's just insane.
