Few Steps into the Forest

My friend and I were unsuccessful rowers, swimmers, and rappellers. We were seeking something that we really enjoyed. Finally, we got the chance to sneak into the forest. To enter the forest we had to cross a bridge. This is the same bridge we used for rappelling. There was a huge height from the river to the bridge, and it made a beautiful view.

Before entering the forest, a forest officer stopped us and we had to explain to him to which team we belong. Later he allow us to go inside and asked us not to go too far alone. According to him, no one is allowed to go inside without the aid of a guide.

When we stepped into the forest, we felt the difference of temperature and freshness of the air. Sinharaja is known as the heart of rain forests in Sri Lanka. Greeny environment with multi-layered plans reminded me old school geography lessons.

I inhaled enough oxygen without any toxicity. There were some boards indicating details of some birds. We could hear different different bird voices but couldn't figure out any. Salalihiniya is one of them. The forest officer later showed us some photos of Salalihiniya, White monkeys, Hornbills, and giant squirrels later.

Ferns and mosses are also very common in here. The wet environment aids the good growth of Moses. There were dead trunks covered with Moses and fungus.

I shouldn't forget to talk about leeches. As the weather was sunny, there were no extreme amounts of leeches, but still, there were some. We used Siddhalepa, Salonpas, citronella oil and even leech socks, but there were non of us who was able to protect from a leech.

We were not allowed to go to deep into the forest alone. So without taking any risk we came back after certain feet. When crossing back the bridge we felt the difference between forest and village.
