The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2025 and was released in early 2026. It follows a group of students who come across an ancient object that should have been left alone.

The story begins with a shocking moment. During a school basketball game, a student suddenly dies in a disturbing way after seeing terrifying visions. Months later, a new girl named Chrys transfers to the same school and inherits his locker. Inside, she finds a strange skull-shaped whistle. It looks harmless. Just another weird object. But once it’s blown, things start to change.

Soon, Chrys and a small group of students realize something is very wrong. Anyone who hears the whistle becomes haunted. Not by ghosts. Not by demons. But by manifestations of their own future deaths. Each person starts seeing how they are going to die. And slowly, those visions begin to come true in brutal ways. What started as curiosity turns into a countdown they cannot escape.

As they try to understand the curse, they learn the whistle is an Aztec death artifact that literally “summons your death.” Now the group has to figure out how to survive something that already knows their fate. And the worst part is the possible solutions are just as dark as the curse itself.

There’s a clear social layer here too. Like many modern horror films, it focuses on young people dealing with identity, fear, and pressure. It even touches on themes like self-acceptance and emotional struggle while everything around them is collapsing. Underneath the horror, it’s also about facing what you’re most afraid of… especially when it’s inevitable.

Whistle had a relatively small release and made around $3 million worldwide, showing it didn’t really break into the mainstream. Critically, it sits around 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers saying the concept is strong but not very original. Some even compare it to Final Destination because of the “death is coming for you” idea, though the film still delivers some creative and brutal moments.
