The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 feels more like a refinement than a complete redesign. #Samsung has not tried to reinvent its popular flip phone this year. Instead, it has focused on making the experience smoother, lighter, and more practical for everyday use. With a thinner body, improved hinge, larger and more useful FlexWindow, faster chipset, and Galaxy AI features, the Z Flip8 continues to be one of the most polished flip-style #foldable smartphones on the market.

However, this is also a phone that plays it safe. Many of the biggest improvements happen behind the scenes, while the cameras, charging speeds, and overall design remain very familiar. If you are upgrading from a Galaxy Z Flip6 or Flip7, the differences may not feel dramatic. But for first-time foldable buyers, the Z Flip8 remains one of the easiest flip phones to recommend.

The design continues to be one of Samsung's biggest strengths. At only 180g, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is the lightest Flip phone Samsung has ever made. The thinner profile makes it easier to carry in a pocket, while the redesigned hinge feels smoother and reduces the visibility of the display crease. Samsung also improves the durability with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, Armor Aluminum, and IP48 water and dust resistance. The overall design may look similar to last year's model, but it feels more refined in daily use.

The displays remain excellent. The inside features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, while the 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow becomes much more useful this year. Samsung now allows more apps, widgets, notifications, and Galaxy AI features to run directly on the cover screen, meaning you can reply to messages, check directions, or control music without opening the phone. Brightness has also improved, making both displays easier to use outdoors. The crease is less noticeable than before, helping the phone feel even more premium.

Performance is flagship-level. Depending on the region, the Galaxy Z Flip8 uses either the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Samsung's new #Exynos 2600, paired with 12GB of RAM and fast UFS 4.1 storage. Everyday performance is excellent, whether you are multitasking, gaming, editing videos, or using Galaxy AI features. Samsung has also improved thermal management, allowing the phone to maintain strong performance during longer workloads. Most users will not notice any difference between the Snapdragon and Exynos versions during normal use.

The camera system remains dependable, although this is where many users expected bigger upgrades. Samsung continues with a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera, producing detailed photos with vibrant colors and excellent dynamic range. Samsung's image processing remains one of the best in the Android world, delivering reliable results in almost every lighting condition. Portraits look natural, video recording remains excellent, and Flex Mode continues to make hands-free photography easier than traditional smartphones. However, compared to newer competitors from Motorola, Xiaomi, or Vivo, the camera hardware feels largely unchanged. There is still no dedicated telephoto camera, which may disappoint photography enthusiasts.

Battery life receives a small but welcome improvement. Samsung now uses a 4,300mAh silicon-carbon battery, helping the Flip8 comfortably last a full day for most users. The newer battery technology improves efficiency without making the phone thicker. Charging remains at 45W wired, together with wireless and reverse wireless charging. While battery life is better than previous Flip models, Samsung still trails several Chinese competitors that offer much larger batteries and significantly faster charging speeds.

On the software side, the Galaxy Z Flip8 runs One UI 9 based on #Android 17. Samsung continues to deliver one of the best software experiences on Android, with Galaxy AI deeply integrated throughout the system. Live Translate, Writing Assist, Photo Assist, Circle to Search, and Gemini all work seamlessly, while the improved FlexWindow makes the cover display much more useful than before. Samsung also promises seven years of Android and security updates, giving the Flip8 one of the longest software support periods available on any Android phone.

There are still a few drawbacks:

• Camera hardware sees very little improvement over previous models.

• Charging speeds remain behind many Chinese competitors.

• The battery is still smaller than some rival flip phones.

• The $100 price increase makes the upgrades feel less exciting.

• Users upgrading from the Flip7 may not notice a major difference.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 feels like Samsung polishing an already excellent formula instead of starting from scratch. It delivers flagship performance, a refined foldable design, better battery technology, a much more useful cover display, and industry-leading software support. While the upgrades are mostly incremental, they combine to create the best Galaxy Flip phone Samsung has made so far.

If you want a stylish foldable smartphone with flagship performance, excellent software, and one of the best everyday user experiences available, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is an easy recommendation. But if you already own the Galaxy Z Flip7, the improvements may not be significant enough to justify upgrading. Likewise, if your highest priority is faster charging, larger batteries, or more advanced camera hardware, competitors like the Motorola Razr Ultra or Xiaomi Mix Flip may offer better overall value.
