In your community, what is the most common occupation, and why is the occupation important to your community?

The most common occupations in my area are farming and small businesses. Many are involved in small businesses, people are involved in the cultivation of rice, mango, litchi and various vegetables. In addition, small market-oriented shops, transportation and other small businesses are run.

These occupations are important to our community, as they create employment for people in our community, keep the local economy going and play an important role in meeting the food and daily necessities needs of the people in the area. The crops grown in our community are supplied to different parts of the country, which contributes significantly to the local economy.

What tools or skills are used in the occupation that people in your community do?

1000029921.jpg

People in my community are mainly engaged in agriculture, cultivation, small business, transportation and various service professions. These professions use various types of tools and skills. Farmers use tractors, power tillers, irrigation pumps, spray machines and other agricultural machinery to facilitate their farming work. For this, farmers have to acquire skills in land cultivation, crop care and modern agricultural technology.

Small business owners use mobile banking, computers, calculators etc. for accounting and maintenance. Transport drivers also gain knowledge about vehicle driving skills, traffic laws and basic concepts of vehicle maintenance. These tools and skills make people's work easier, safer and more productive and play an important role in the economic development of my community. People in my community use these tools and skills and work hard to make themselves self-sufficient.

Tell us the challenges people are facing in this occupation

People engaged in the gift, handicraft and fashion shop business that I reviewed generally face several obstacles. For example, if the price of the product increases in the wholesale market, the profit of the small business decreases. Sales decrease due to the presence of many similar shops around the bazaar. Currently, due to the influence of online shopping, many buyers now shop online, resulting in a decrease in the number of buyers in the shop.

Although sales are high during Eid, Puja or tourist seasons, sales are low during other times of the year, people engaged in the business face various obstacles. In addition, various expenses including shop rent, electricity bills and employee salaries to run the business put pressure on the business. In the case of adding new products to the business, there is a lack of sufficient capital to procure new products or expand the business.

Share with us how this occupation supports the local economy and families in your community.

Today in the My Community Occupation competition, I reviewed a handicraft, gift item, and fashion accessory shop. Such businesses support the local economy and families in many ways. In my area, the gift item and handicraft business plays an important role in the local economy. Through this business, shop owners, salespeople, artisans, and suppliers get a regular income.

As locally made wooden handicrafts and other products are sold, small entrepreneurs benefit and new jobs are created. In addition, the income earned from this business can meet the food, education, medical, and other daily needs of families. When tourists and outside buyers buy these products, the business in the area prospers, which contributes positively to the development of the local economy.

Review:
Traders contribute to the economy of a community through paying levies and taxes, and in rural areas, many people are into such a type of business. Businesses require special managerial skills; otherwise, it would be difficult for traders to grow when there is mismanagement of resources.
