Vaastav: The Reality is a gritty and realistic crime drama that portrays the harsh truths of Mumbai’s underworld. The story revolves around Raghu (Sanjay Dutt), a simple middle-class young man who dreams of living an honest life with his family.
Raghu runs a small fast-food stall with his close friend Dedh Footiya (Sanjay Narvekar). Their life is modest but peaceful—until one day, a confrontation with a local goon spirals out of control. In a moment of anger and self-defense, Raghu kills the man. This incident becomes the turning point of his life.

After the murder, Raghu finds himself trapped between the police and the criminal world. To survive, he is forced to enter the underworld. Gradually, he rises through the ranks and becomes a powerful gangster. However, with power comes fear, constant tension, and a growing sense of guilt that begins to consume him.

The film also explores Raghu’s personal life. He falls in love with Sonia (Namrata Shirodkar) and eventually marries her. But his involvement in crime starts affecting his relationships. His mother (Reema Lagoo) remains the emotional core of his life. She deeply loves him and constantly hopes that he will return to the right path. The mother-son bond is one of the film’s most powerful elements.

As Raghu’s influence in the underworld grows, so do his enemies. Rival gangs and a determined police officer (Shivaji Satam) relentlessly pursue him. To stay alive, Raghu becomes increasingly violent and ruthless, even though deep down he still longs for a normal life.

The climax of the film is deeply emotional and tragic. Realizing that his existence only brings danger and suffering to his loved ones, Raghu returns home to his mother as the police close in. In a heartbreaking moment, he asks her to kill him, believing it is a more dignified end than being captured or killed in an encounter.
In the end, his mother, torn apart by grief, gathers the strength to shoot her own son. This devastating scene highlights the ultimate consequence of a life of crime.
