What is first aid, and why is it important?

First aid is the temporary medical attention given to a sick person as well as an injured person in order to preserve their life. A layman is usually the person who normally attends to a sick person until medical professional assistance is provided.

First aid is important to us because it provides assistance to sick or injured people whenever we need it. First aid saves our lives as well as stops our sickness from worsening whenever urgent attention is provided at the right time. It promotes recovery through the cleaning of wounds so that they can quickly heal.

Which simple first aid techniques do you know or have learned? When should they be used?

During our inter-house sports competition, I witnessed several kinds of temporary treatments given to some students who collapsed as a result of stress. The school has a first aid box where all those equipment and drugs are available.

They gave such persons medical attention and responded. Another thing is that when the broken bottle cut my leg and too much blood was flowing, first aid was given to me with penicillin and bandage.

What are the step-by-step procedures for applying the first aid techniques you have mentioned above? State them.

The following is a step-by-step procedure provided to individuals experiencing stress so that they can regain their composure.

➡️Their safety is important, so it is essential to remove the person from any physical danger as well as from other sources of stress, such as noise, crowds, and the threat of accidents.

➡️We should move them to a peaceful area away from loud noises and ask them to sit down comfortably.

➡️Allow them to talk about their feelings; this can be facilitated through active listening. Finally, we should not force them into that situation.

For those who have injured their legs as a result of cuts from broken glass, they must clean the wound with soap, and afterward, apply an antiseptic followed by a bandage. The person treating the injured individual must wash their hands before and after treatment.

Have you ever used first aid to help yourself or someone else? Share your experience.

Yes of course, I remember the day I was reading for the exam with my brother alone in the house and this happened to me during the month of Ramadan. As I was reading I developed stomachache to the extent that I was unable to move around, so I immediately give my brother money to helped me buy tin peak milk.

When he returned I break my fast by drank the milk in order to save my live first after that I regained my sense back and I feel alright through out the day, although I later fast the remaining fast after we concluded that year Ramadan.

Why do you think everyone should learn basic first aid skills?

It's important for everyone to learned first aid skills so that more life can be save.

  1. A layperson must learn how to act fast to the emergency situation such as excessive bleeding, cardiac arrest and more all these can be supported with uses of first aid.

  2. A person must learn how to use CPR in a simple way so that it could save life of many people as much as possible as well as artificial ventilation must be provided to ensure adequate breathing in person.

  3. A person must also learned how to close stitches as a result of wound from occuring, some may not know how to do that and it essential to learn that before you find yourself in a situation.
