While there are some films that entertain us, there are others that make you question all of your assumptions with just one element of surprise. I like to be surprised till the last minute of the movie, and Artemis Fowl kept my anticipation going on and on. This was a film that began with an easy rescue operation but soon turned into a fascinating tale of magic and deceit.

Talk about a movie with an unforgettable twist In no more 400 words.

An example of a film in which I was surprised by a twist is Artemis Fowl. In the beginning of watching the movie, I believed it was just yet another story where an intelligent kid whose father had been kidnapped tries to save him. I was sure that the antagonists would either be seeking money or were angry with the protagonist for some reason. The film gave me all reasons to believe so, so I got comfortable in my expectations.

However, everything turned out differently. It turns out that Artemis' father was protecting the fairy race from being exposed all those years. As for the kidnapping, it was not related to money but about the artifact called the Aculos, which had great powers of bringing back or wiping out immense powers. In order to save his father, Artemis had to locate the artifact before Opal Koboi managed to get it and free her father. What was even more surprising was the fact that Commander Root and Captain Holly Short, who I was sure would be antagonists at first, turned out to be the protagonists' allies in the end.

This was the element that made the entire story take an entirely different direction. The rescue operation that the book was initially about turned into a battle to save the magical world. Everything that Artemis found out about his father made him understand that he was leading a double life in order to protect the fairy world from humans and keep its greatest secret from everyone else.

It is safe to say that I was taken aback by this turn of events. Indeed, I decided to pause the movie since I was sure that I understood the way the story was going to go. The plot surprised me and I greatly liked the fact that this story showed that it pays to pay close attention to the little details rather than to the most obvious facts.

How did the twist changed the story?

It all changed when I found out that it was not because of money or any business deals, as I thought at first, that Artemis' father was taken, but the Aculos, an extremely powerful artifact which was missing since a long time ago. Then the quest to rescue his father turned into a race against time in order to prevent Opal Koboi from getting the powerful item which could turn the fairy society upside-down.

When Artemis followed the clues left by his father, each new clue added a new aspect to the story. His father's secret library at Fowl Manor, the knowledge about fairy inventions, and even the discovery of the Haven City meant that there was a connection between the Fowl family and the fairy civilization for a very long time. Moreover, when I found out that Captain Holly Short and Commander Root, whose intentions I initially considered hostile to Artemis, were fighting to defend their world, then the conflict between them changed its face.

In searching for the Aculos, the stakes were constantly being raised in every scene. It was no longer a question of using the intelligence of Artemis, but his ability to trust, which he rarely did with others. The use of the magical shield at Fowl Manor, the negotiations with the Lower Elements Police, and the struggle to prevent the Aculos from falling into the hands of Opal Koboi all became crucial decisions. The movie was no longer a fantastic tale but suspenseful one in which a single magical object determines the destiny of the two worlds.

To be quite frank, the plot twist made the movie memorable for me in the first place. I needed to change my whole perception of the story and reevaluate the information that I received from the very first minutes of the movie. The signs were always there, but only after discovering the truth about the Aculos and Artemis' father, everything became more complex.

What was your reaction to the twist

My reaction to the twist was full of shock because I was absolutely sure I could predict the development of the story. I firmly believed Artemis was concerned only about the rescue of his father from the criminals. After learning the truth about Aculos and the real intentions of Opal Koboi, I understood that my assumptions about the complexity of the story were wrong.

The most interesting thing in this movie is that it manages to provide hints without being too conspicuous. Secrets of Artemis Fowl Sr., connection between the Fowl family and the fairy world, and the unexpected alliance with Captain Holly Short turned out to be quite logical after the twist. The feeling was very satisfying because everything came as no surprise but rather as something that had been evident at once.

In general, I am satisfied with this twist and the overall movie because it changed my first impressions and the attitude to the characters and the plot. Now I know that the best suspense movies are those which change one's predictions and Artemis Fowl did it very well.
