My best regards to you all and to the competition organisers. I hope my entry proves to be an interesting read and meets the competition criteria. Let’s get started.
Talk about a movie with an unforgettable twist
---
I’m someone who enjoys many different film genres, ranging from romance, mystery, horror and drama to action. Many of them do indeed have engaging plots and storylines, they’re a pleasure to watch and give me a different perspective on various things.
When it comes to films with plot twists, there are many genres that offer unexpected storylines and leave me in awe. One film whose plot I really didn’t see coming the first time I watched it was Shutter Island (2010).
Firstly, I love this film because the lead actor is my idol, Leonardo DiCaprio. Secondly, the film’s setting has a mysterious feel to it, full of unanswered questions. Thirdly, I found myself wondering why every plot twist sparked and heightened my curiosity.
Every minute I watched of the film Shutter Island (2010), it felt as though I was watching an adventure drama thoroughly enjoyable and full of mysteries.
At the start of the story, I and perhaps other viewers too would assume that this story would unfold in the usual way. It involves two US marshals tasked with investigating the disappearance of a murderer from a psychiatric hospital located in a remote area.
The question that arises is. Why did a psychiatric hospital with such tight security, situated on a remote island, allow a patient to escape and go missing? Perhaps we might expect the usual search-and rescue drama that is common in similar films.
But the truth is, Shutter Island (2010) is different. It made me think and speculate time and time again.
How did the twist changed the story?
---
As I mentioned at the start, the film begins quite normally, with a mission to track down a killer in a remote hospital. Teddy, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is one of two US marshals working alongside Chuck on this enigmatic mission.
The suspect they are looking for is called Rachel Solando. He has mysteriously disappeared. The initial leads in the search were rather unremarkable. I’m quite intrigued by this person they’re looking for, there are many well-organised leads that seem to go round in circles within that remote island prison.
I really enjoyed each of those search sequences, my mind was wandering all over the place. At times it seemed complicated quite complicated, in fact. It’s mad, I’m really enjoying this film.
As the story unfolded, I began to suspect, based on some of the characters, that the hospital was involved in this incident in fact, that they were all involved. It seemed as though they were covering up something that Teddy and Chuck were looking for.
The craziest thing about this film is that the most unexpected things happen, every direction I suspected turned out to be completely off the mark. It really isn’t easy to predict.
This is what happened, and it made me rethink the whole story from the beginning. You can surely guess my reaction.

Having watched closely from the start, I was both shocked and dumbfounded. It turned out that the culprit they were looking for was ‘Teddy’. Unbelievable, it was him, the main character in the story who played the role of a marshal. He was searching for himself the main culprit who had committed the murder.
The truth of the matter is that the investigation actually took place at a remote psychiatric hospital on an island. The hospital staff were conducting an experiment on one of the patients, named Teddy, to help him recall the same events experienced by Rachel Solando. Their stories were so similar that they decided to try this method.
Rachel Solando was, it could be said, suffering from severe mental distress, which led her to drown her three children and shoot her wife dead.
Essentially, Andrew creates Teddy identity and investigates Rachel Solando as if he were solving someone else’s case. In reality, Rachel’s story is a reflection of the tragedy Teddy himself has experienced.
You should watch this film, it’s truly unique, strange and fascinating. Or perhaps you’ve already seen it.
Perhaps this is all I can tell you all. This post also serves as my entry for the third week’s competition. I’d like to tag @alee75, @radjasalman and @rzramadhan.

Talking about the plot twists of Shutter Island, the way the story of this movie confuses the audience is wonderful. When watching it for the first time, it is natural to think that the doctor or the hospital authorities are plotting something, because the story makes the audience think in that way. In my opinion, the scene where Teddy Marshall turns from a mentally disturbed Andrew Ladis in a moment completely changes the context of the entire story. The moment when you realize that the case of Rachel Solando's disappearance was actually a fabricated metaphor to avoid his own inner tragedy and guilt is truly speechless. This psychological aspect of Leonardo DiCaprio's performance and the points he makes about the mysterious atmosphere of the island perfectly capture the essence of the movie. Best of luck to you in this contest. 😊
