If I Rule...and If I Love
If you were given the opportunity to rule your country, what are the top three changes you would make to improve people’s lives?
If I was given the chance to rule my nation, I would focus on three major things which I know directly affect the life of the people living in that nation. Healthcare will be the topmost priority. Building more efficient hospitals to tackle various types of diseases. Encouraging and supporting the students that are in the medical field. The reason is that the health of the people determines how much effort they can put into work and the nation. You can't run a nation well enough without the majority being healthy whether they're youth or not. And the health of a person is the very life and well being of the person making it the most important thing to anyone.
I will also focus a hundred percent on education. I live in Ghana and so I understand what both good and bad education does to a person. If people are not well educated, both themselves and the entire nation are handicapped. We need to get foreign experts for everything. And speaking of the person's life, they can't transform their own lives that well without education. I would also create a new culture that trains students to understand that real education starts outside the school walls. There's this idea that when they graduate they're done. This mentality stops them from growing in skill and knowledge and they become incompetent when complex things are brought before them.
The third one is to wage war on corruption and build a government that people can trust. The general well being of the nation is highly determined by the leadership. All leaders in government must be held accountable for their actions, answer to the general public, be transparent with what funding was given and what it was used for and should be people of integrity and honesty. I would recreate a new culture for politics. A culture where people don't see politics as a way to make big money. So funding becomes transparent, heavily secured and gathered. All the politicians get is their pay cheque and bonuses, nothing else. It won't be a job that pays high to be able to filter all the people that go in for the money. Anyone that comes in, comes in for nation building only.
What is one major issue affecting your country today, and how would your leadership approach solve it effectively?.
A major issue affecting my country Ghana today is our serious economic instability, the high prices of things now, the high debt we are in as a nation owing both America and China, and the very increased cost of living in all regions and especially the capital, Accra. A lot are now struggling to afford basic things which about a decade ago was so easy. Nothing has changed it's the very same things but have increased 5 to 10x in some cases.
If I was the leader my approach is to reduce
government spending and avoid unnecessary borrowing. I'm not pointing fingers at any politician but the reason government spending is a problem now is because that's the way they make up excuses to take the money. They're spending on so many projects and in the end, you can't account for every single cedi that was used.
I would increase support in the farming sector and especially small businesses or startups. If we want an economy that'll thrive, we can't put pressure on small businesses. I'll also put more support in local industries with one goal in mind, creating more jobs for people. I'll focus on technology in a way that will open Ghanaians, citizens in my country to earn online. If we grow the online earning communities and teach people that, there will be more people out of the unemployment group.
I would use digital systems and perhaps blockchain to track public money and what the government really uses the tax for to reduce corruption. This approach will kill two birds with one stone, increase jobs and lower prices because the government is printing less money and taxing less because it's spending less and held accountable for every penny it uses.
As a wife or husband, what values and actions would you bring into your marriage to build a peaceful and supportive home?.
As a wife, I would bring respect, honesty, patience and loyalty into my marriage. And to successfully do this, I'll have the talk with my spouse about mutuality. If all these virtues are not mutually expressed amongst ourselves, it's a matter of time till the marriage comes to an end. I would try to speak calmly with my spouse, not only say what I think but consider my spouse enough to listen more, avoid the insults, the lies and secrets that'll break trust. Some arguments and fights are unnecessary and could be resolved with a simple discussion. However like I said it'll have to be mutual, because if I do it and my spouse doesn't, there will be an imbalance and vice versa too.
I would not only expect help but would support my partner's goals as well, showing interest, giving encouragement and becoming a motivator for my spouse. I will not respond by ignoring them when something doesn't go my way because that act in itself is a recipe for more trouble but would deal with the issue as quickly as possible. I would keep to my word and aim at making a home where both myself and my spouse feel safe, wanted, valued and well understood.
How do you think good leadership at home (as a spouse) can influence better leadership in society?
I think good home leadership is going to influence better society leadership because it acts like a habit. You do it over and over, soon you see yourself behaving that way outside of where you were used to doing it. It influences leadership in society by teaching the person. If a spouse is honest, respectful, patient and responsible at home, he or she learns that this is the way to handle a person for things to go well, all that has to happen is to treat others in a similar way. They learn from the marriage how to guide and lead a partnership without abuse and without pride but with humility and fairness.
If you can lead well at home, you already have the skill to handle conflicts and manage people. So that means that strong leadership in marriage can build better character and a better character can lead to better leadership in the entire country.
