My Experience with Neighbours

Whether you like it or not, your neighbour might be the closest person that can attend to you when you're in a situation even before your family members arrive. In some scenarios, a good neighbour might even know you better than those you call family. The fact is that we don't have to choose them but the real truth is, these set of people called neighbours leaves some lasting memories with us. We learn, discuss, share problems, live in harmony or chaos and some neighbours are good, while some are bad. I can say I have experienced the both. The noisy, calm, bad, glutton, gossip, foodie, bad belly, best in argument, borrow borrow, and so on types of neighbour. Remember you don't get to choose who lives close to you unless na you get the compound...hahahaha..

So, let me forget about the bad experience I had with some bad neighbours and just share this good experience which helped me changed the way I see some neighbours. The thing is don't always have a negative mindset about anyone, just live and see them for who they are, everyday.

Describe one memorable experience you have had with a neighbour. Was the experience positive or negative?

I know I can't choose neighbours but I love finding myself in a space or environment full of love and beautiful people with positive mindset. So, after my 14 days shift at work, this happened around last year, I arrived Port Harcourt late that night and I was so tired that I got confused where I might of misplaced my wallet, and house keys. And that wallet contained some cash, ID card and my ATM card. I figured out when I was about to open my door. I was so worried and angry. I knocked on my neighbours door, at least I could keep my bags until I sort my self out. But to my greatest suprise he's interests in the whole matter got me wondering what I have done to deserve the help. He told me to calm down that maybe the keys might have fallen not to far from here.

So, we began the search, and behold he found it outside the compound where the bike dropped me off. They must have fallen off my pocket and I didn't notice due to tiredness, I guessed. I was so happy and also thanked him so much for the help, not everyone would do these considering that it's already night. So, good neighbours exist...and thank God shaa the bad ones no see am...I for hear word🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

What lesson did you learn from that experience?

One lesson I learnt is that good neighbours still exit despite the kind of world you might find yourself. Also don't let assumptions cloud your judgement on people, you might not get it right. The help I got from my neighbour that night brought us closer and we're good friends and I give him help too in any way. We live in peace and no quarrels and the society is better this way, if we all love one another and stop thinking someone is chasing you 🤣🤣🤣..hmmmmm..that one dey shaaa...bad people dey so use your head.

What qualities make a good neighbour in your opinion?

If you ask me, I would say, if you're good to people and approach them very well they will reciprocate. As neighbours, respect one another, Always be considerate, like there was when my neighbour's generator smoke was kinda disturbing me, I had to tell him and he was considerate enough to direct the exhaust somewhere else. Another quality is communication, some people don't know how to communicate politely. In the case of the generator smoke, imagine I approached him harshly, he would respond the same way too. So, let's avoid too much talks, try to understand one another and live in peace. ✌️

Do you think neighbours are that important? Explain.

Yes ooo, to get better neighbours good. While you're away and something happens at home, your neighbour is the closest person who can be of help to you at that moment. Like, turning off a running tap, bringing in some clothes when it rains, checking on you when you're sick, good recommendations (products, jobs, and others) can also come from a good neighbour. The fact is, life becomes easy when we live in peace with the people around us, it feels safe and like home.
