SC-S31/W5-Movie Magic | Movies About Love Beyond Romance (Coco)

One of the supreme forms of love you can experience comes from Family. Let's take romance aside, true love has to do with sacrifice, friendship, forgiveness, and the bonds that links generations. Let's also relate it with the Bible, God loved the world that he died for us...he gave himself for us to be saved because we are his family.
I see the movie Coco as one that describes family love through it's music, memories, and traditions.
At the end, you will understand that true love never dies even after death and remembering our lost loved ones, is keeping them alive.

Watch a movie that speaks about love beyond romance focusing on friendship, family and sacrifice then respond to the following Questions;

Coco is one movie I watched the year I lost my mum, it was emotional but also meaningful, back then I kind of related the movie to my personal experience. Coco was produced by Pixar Animation Studios and then, released by Walt Disney Pictures in the year 2017.
A movie inspired by a Mexican tradition or let's say celebration called Día de los Muertos (this simply means "Day of the Dead"). It's a tradition that has to do with remembering of family members who has been lost to death.

The movie narrated how a young boy by name Miguel Rivera, who had a big dream of becoming a musician, not considering the fact his family banned music. Miguel has this role model who was a famous musician called Ernesto de la Cruz and Miguel believed that he was of same bloodline with him. Miguel stole a guitar from Ernesto's tomb on Día de los Muertos celebration night. Surprisingly, he founds himself in the land of the dead and that was where his journey started. A journey that brought about forgiveness, understanding, love and also changed his family's decision on music.

In his journey, Miguel meets Héctor, who was about to be forgotten by his only daughter. Hector promised to help Miguel find answers about his family history.
Together they exposed some painful truths that was hidden for years.
In all this, Miguel came to understand why family love is more important than fame.

What type of love was most powerful in the movie?

The love the movie portrayed was family love and sacrificial love.

In the beginning, the protagonist felt no one understands him based on music was banned in his family. This decision was made by his great great grandmother (Imelda) after her husband left her with Coco her little daughter to chase his musical dreams. With this painful experience, the Rivera family don't want anything that has to do with music.

As the movie continued, I discovered that Héctor didn't abandoned his family. He made up his mind to go back home to his family because he misses home. But unluckily for him, his life was cut short by his friend Ernesto, who poisoned him because he wanted what Hector had.
Even in the after life, Héctor’s wish was not fame but simply to be remembered by his daughter (Coco).

At a point, I felt Hector's pain, seeing the unconditional love he had for his daughter. Even in the after life, his love for his family didn't depreciate.
Another emotional part of this movie that touched me was the part Miguel was singing to Coco the song titled "Remember me".
Here you can understand the powerful message the song had, that made Coco to remember her Papa again. And this made Hector, in the land of the dead, not to be forgotten forever.

Not withstanding the disagreements in the family, they had each others back regardless. In the end, they all approved and supported Miguel in becoming a musician. Here you can also see that the word "unity" played a very important role.

Do you think the love conveyed through this movie is realistic today? And why?

Ohh yes, I strongly believe that the love shown in this movie is realistic today.

In reality, our parents have sacrificed their happiness and comfort for us to reach a certain height they couldn't get to.
A lot of parents out there, work tirelessly just to put food on the table for their family.I have also seen a scenario where a friend of mine felt his parents always misunderstands him. But no matter what family love is strong.

In some homes, you will see the pictures of dead relatives hanging on the wall, even in some traditions, some people do remembrance day too to honour their dead ones.

You see, this movie has a lot to offer, you can also find "Friendship and support".
Héctor helped Miguel even when he had nothing to gain from it. True friendship still exists today when people stand by each other during difficult times.

Another real lesson you can see in the movie is forgiveness. Many of us carry family pains all from the past, but if we come together in Understanding we can always be healed from this pain. In the movie, Hector was forgiven and his picture was added to the family's ofrenda.

What did the movie teach you about love?

A good lesson about love from this movie is that true love will never die.

When we talk about love, a lot people think is all about romance, love is also about family, sweet memories, forgiveness and friendship. If someone loves you they can make sacrifices for you just to see you happy.

I learnt the importance of remembering members who are not more. Their legacy lives on by remembering them. According to the movie, in the land of the dead, if you observe anyone who is not remembered will be forgotten forever.

Some people take for granted the power of communication. This movie teaches us that even when there is misunderstanding in the family, with communication comes solution.
When the Rivera family got to know that there problem was not music and they accepted Miguel going into music.

Finally, I'm saying this out of experience, always make time to be with loved ones, cherish those moments, create memories and let the bond be strong.
