I have watched the movie titled: "12 Years a Slave". This movie speaks of injustice, challenging a norm.

The social issue that the movie highlights is the terrible injustice of racism, slavery, and the abuse of human rights. The movie showed how black people were treated badly as property, separated from their loved ones, and forced to work in harsh weather without being given freedom.

Also, the movie gets to expose how society accepted this cruel system as something that was normal back then, despite the fact that it was wrong.

Did it change how you see this issue?

Yes, the movie changed how I see this issue because the movie made the issue feel more real and emotional. I have read about slavery in history books when I was growing up which totally looked different from seeing the pain, fear, and suffering people experienced in the movie.

The movie reminded me that injustice can continue when people stay silent or accept harmful traditions without questioning them. The importance of equality, freedom, and courage is what the movie showed.

How is this theme discussed this week relevant today?

The theme is still very relevant as we read because discrimination and injustice still exist in many forms around us, our society, and the world at large. People are still faced with gender inequality, racism, tribalism, unfair treatment, and child labor all because of social status or culture.

I like watching the movie because it teaches us that we shouldn't allow our society to blindly follow harmful norms. Instead, we should allow people to stand up for human rights, fairness, and respect for others no matter their background.
