Animal Activities #71
A goat found a large cabbage in a field, he picked it up and started walking with so much joy on his little face.
He came to a bridge and crossed the river. When he looked down, he saw another goat with a cabbage that was bigger than his. The goat wanted the bigger cabbage, so he opened his mouth to call the other goat so he could trick him for the bigger one.
But when he opened his mouth, he dropped his own cabbage into the river. He watched it float away until it disappeared. Now there's no way to get that cabbage back, and the goat he would have tricked was gone when he checked again.
He felt like he never really had the cabbage in the first place.
He stood there for a while before turning back. The field was no longer the same to him, because of the disappointment, it even appeared to be much smaller than before. T
The grass was dry and hopeless. He couldn't eat the grass well, there was no taste to the grass, and he still tried to eat it because it was the only food he could find. He ate the grass slowly and stared at the ground when he tore it apart. There were other goats all around, but he wanted to eat alone, so he moved to a quiet place to eat he said food in peace. No other goat spoke to him.
He avoided going back to the bridge for a very long time because it brought back too much pain in the disappointment. The river was still there, but he took the long way around. Not just the memory but the lesson that when you're carrying food on that bridge you could lose it quicker than you found it.
He had to go past an old fence and come back through the back of the field. This route took much longer, but he felt good knowing he was avoiding the water. He kept his head down and continued to eat the food in front of him. He preferred the field where life was simple, the ground was just ground with nothing beneath to take your food from you. He appreciated the little he got and kept to himself.
He got another cabbage but not as big as the one he previously had, he enjoyed it right there and picked whatever that was left back to where he usually sleeps. He's a different goat now.
