1. Pick a movie with an ending you don't like
I chose the movie Vaastav (1999) because I did not like its ending. In the original film, Raghu asks his mother to shoot him. Believing that death is the only way to free him from his pain and suffering, she tearfully shoots him, bringing his tragic journey to an end. While the ending is emotional and powerful, I felt it ended without giving Raghu a chance to accept responsibility and redeem himself.
2. Rewrite the ending in your own words
After narrowly escaping a deadly confrontation with both the police and the gangsters who had once been his closest allies, Raghu finally returns home. He is physically exhausted and emotionally broken. Seeing his wife and young son makes him realize how deeply his criminal life has hurt the people he loves.
His mother tells him that true courage is not found in death but in accepting the consequences of his actions. Her words change Raghu's thinking. That night, he apologizes to his family and promises that he will no longer run from the truth.
The next morning, Raghu surrenders peacefully to the police. During the investigation, he reveals the names of corrupt politicians, gang leaders, and officials who had used him for their own benefit. His testimony helps the police expose a large criminal network.
Although Raghu is sentenced to life imprisonment, he accepts the punishment with dignity. Inside prison, he spends his time reading, reflecting on his mistakes, and guiding young prisoners so they do not repeat the same path.
Years later, his son visits him in college uniform and proudly says that he wants to become an honest police officer to protect innocent people. Raghu realizes that although he cannot erase his past, his decision to face justice has given his son a brighter future.
The film ends with Raghu watching the sunrise through the prison window, symbolizing hope, redemption, and the power of accepting responsibility.
3. Why do you think your ending fits better?
I believe my ending fits the story better because it delivers a stronger message about accountability, redemption, and personal growth. Instead of ending Raghu's life, it shows that even someone who has made serious mistakes can choose to accept responsibility and help bring justice. His decision to surrender not only punishes him for his crimes but also exposes the powerful people behind the criminal network. The ending also gives hope through his son's dream of becoming an honest police officer, showing that one generation's mistakes do not have to define the next. In my opinion, this ending is more meaningful because it balances justice with hope and leaves the audience with a positive lesson about courage, truth, and change.
