Urban agriculture refers to the process of cultivating as well as distributing food in the urban setting. Urban agriculture is not only for crops alone; it involves other areas of farm activities such as rearing animals, beekeeping, and so on.

In urban areas, many people practice garden activities where tomatoes, corn, and other fruits are planted in the backyard or on the rooftops of houses. This urban agriculture contributes to social development as well as improves the livelihoods of urban dwellers, allowing them to have access to fresh vegetables and fruits directly. If all these are properly planned, it will improve food security.

So, in this case, we have different types of urban agriculture, which include the following:

• School gardens: these are very common in our different schools so that they can improve educational development as well as aid learning in science. Youth involved in agricultural activities enable them to connect with the natural environment.

• Indoor farming: it is a type of urban agriculture that involves cultivating plants indoors. It is regarded as a major solution to the problems faced by conventional farming. Indoor farming makes use of advanced methods such as aeroponics and others. This indoor farming requires less soil environment, which ensures efficient plant growth.

• Vertical farming: this method of farming ensures the growth of plants that are cultivated in a vertically stacked manner within an indoor environment.

Benefits:

➡️It improves local food production, which reduces the cost of transportation as well as enables the storage of farm products so that there are fewer losses.

➡️This method of agriculture saves us energy needed to transport food from rural to urban centres.

➡️Lastly, urban agriculture enables the city to look healthier as a better place to live by improving the quality of the human environment.
