SC-S33/W4-Rewrite a movie ending- Ek Duuje Ke Liye

Pick a movie with an ending you don't like?

Ek Duuje Ke Liye is a Bollywood film that I will never forget. This movie did a job in many areas like direction and cinematography and acting and emotions and dialogues and songs. Maro Charitra is a Telugu film that came out in 1978. It was directed by K. Balachander. It stars Kamal Haasan and Saritha. This film was a hit and it did well not just in places where people speak Telugu but also in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai the film played in theaters for two years. The end of the film is really sad. It stays with you.

The whole movie is romantic and sweet. The end is very sad. It is sad because it shows a kind of sadness that never goes away. One time Kamal Haasan wanted to make a sequel to Ek Duuje Ke Liye. K. Balachander thought about it for a while and then he agreed to do it.

It was really sad to see the heroine looking messy and wearing clothes at the end of the film. She looked so nice throughout the movie. It was also sad that the hero could not save her and they both died together. Ek Duuje Ke Liye is a film that shows how hard it is to lose someone you love. The story of Ek Duuje Ke Liye is still, in my mind because it is so sad.

Plot

Characters: Vasu (Kamal Haasan) is a young Tamil man, and Sapna (Rati Agnihotri) is a North Indian woman; they live in adjacent houses in Goa. Due to linguistic and cultural differences, there is deep-seated animosity between their families. Nevertheless, defying all opposition, Vasu and Sapna fall deeply in love. To test their love, their parents impose a condition that the couple must neither see nor speak to each other for a period of one year. The film’s moving story revolves around whether they successfully navigate this trial and reunite, or if they face a tragic outcome born of misunderstandings.

Rewrite the ending in your own terms?

In the film's climax, the screenplay could have been altered so that, instead of the heroine actually being subjected to sexual violence, the hero intervenes and saves her just as the villains attempt to attack her. Alternatively, the villains could have abducted both the heroine and her mother; the hero might then have arrived to rescue them as the villains tried to assault the heroine, leading to a change of heart in the mother and paving the way for their marriage.

Explain why you think your own ending fits in better?

There has already been considerable criticism regarding the film's climax; for instance, the renowned director Raj Kapoor, after watching the movie, suggested to director Balachander that the ending could have been different. Similarly, Kamal Haasan expressed a desire to create a sequel because the original climax was so negative—which is why the film Punnagai Mannan was subsequently produced as a follow-up. Therefore, I believe it would be beneficial to remove the scenes that create this negative impact and replace them with the aforementioned positive climax.

Your thoughts on the tragic ending of the movie Ek Duje Ke Liye are quite good. This timeless movie, made in the late seventies, is still etched in people's minds for its emotional tunes and heartwarming songs. In my opinion, there should be no rule that a good love story always has to end in tragedy. The tragic incident shown in the original film creates a kind of deep bitterness in the mind of the audience. You have made your argument quite strong by adding the historical context that even great personalities like Raj Kapoor and Kamal Haasan himself disagreed with this ending, and later the idea of the movie Punnagai Mannan was born. If the alternative ending you suggested, where the hero comes and saves the heroine and wins the hearts of the family and the story progresses towards a happy ending, was implemented, the audience would have returned from the theater with a sense of relief. Best wishes to you in this contest. 😊
