Cost of Raising 30 Broilers in Nigeria for 6 Weeks (Real Farm Breakdown & Profit)
INTRODUCTION
Poultry farming is one of the businesses many Nigerians are going into today. However, many people do not always know the actual cost of raising broilers. In this post, I will share a realistic breakdown of how much it costs to raise 30 broilers within 6 weeks in my area using current prices.
Cost Breakdown for 6 Weeks
- Cost of Day-Old Chicks
30 chicks × ₦1,200 = ₦36,000
- Feed Cost
To raise the birds for 6 weeks, I used:
- 4 bags of Ultima Plus Starter feed @ ₦21,500 = ₦86,000
- 1 bag of Happy Chicken Finisher feed @ ₦18,000 = ₦18,000
Total Feed Cost = ₦104,000
Why I Used These Feeds
I used Ultima Plus Starter feed during the early stage because chicks need strong nutrition, high protein, and energy for proper growth, bone development, and immunity.
I then switched to Happy Chicken Finisher feed in the later stage because finisher feed helps the birds gain weight and develop good flesh for market size within 6 weeks.
- Medication / Vaccination Cost
- Gumboro vaccine (50 doses) = ₦2,000
- Lasota vaccine (50 doses) = ₦1,500
- Ashiboost (2 packs) = ₦4,000
- Coccifor (1 packet) = ₦2,500
- Chick Formula (1 packet) = ₦1,500
- Viral Solution (1 litre) = ₦1,000
- Anidone Anticoccidia (1 packet) = ₦1,000
- Stopper Anticoccidia (3 bottles) = ₦600
- Multivitamin = ₦1,700
- Supertylosin (for CRD) = ₦2,500
Total Medication Cost = ₦18,300
- Wood Shavings (Litter)
- Sawdust: 2 bags @ ₦2,000 = ₦4,000
(Including transportation)
Total Estimated Cost
₦36,000 + ₦104,000 + ₦18,300 + ₦4,000 = ₦162,300
Sales After 6 Weeks
At 6 weeks, the birds should be table size and ready for market.
If each mature broiler sells for ₦7,000:
30 birds × ₦7,000 = ₦210,000
Estimated Profit
₦210,000 - ₦162,300 = ₦47,700
Challenges During The 6 Weeks
- High feed prices
- Disease outbreak risk
- Market price fluctuations
Conclusion
Raising 30 broilers for 6 weeks can still be profitable when properly managed. Good feeding, proper medication, hygiene, and close monitoring are very important for success.
In this particular batch, I recorded zero mortality and no disease outbreak, which helped me achieve better growth and maximize my profit.
