SLC33-W4: My Community, My Story – My Community Occupation.

Assalamu Alaikum I hope everyone in the Steemit family is well by the grace of Allah Almighty. I am also well, Alhamdulillah. Today I am participating in the “My Community, My Story – My Community Occupation” challenge of Week 4 of Season 33. I liked this week’s topic quite a bit, because our daily lives are very deeply connected to the professions and hard work of the people around us. As part of this challenge, I visited a cosmetics and imitation jewelry shop located in Nawabganj Bazar, Rangpur city. I went there mainly to buy a face cream and face wash for myself. Along with shopping, I had the opportunity to learn about the environment of the shop, the variety of products, and the careers of the people involved in this business. Today, I am sharing that experience with you.

My community is called Nawabganj Bazar. It is a well-known and busy commercial area in Rangpur city, Bangladesh. The shop I visited is located in Nawabganj Bazar, opposite Rangpur Super Market. Many people come to this area every day to shop for various essential products. The place is always lively with various types of shops around. The shop I visited is called Tajul Store. According to the shop's visiting card, its address is Road No. 01, Shop No. 12, Nawabganj Bazar, Rangpur. Various products including cosmetics, imitation jewellery, bangles, necklaces, earrings, fashion accessories are available here.

In your community, what is the most common occupation, and why is the occupation important to your community?

In a commercial area like Nawabganj Bazar, business and shopkeeping are one of the most familiar professions of the people. Along with various types of shops, the business of cosmetics and imitation jewelry is also quite popular here. This business is important because women especially need various cosmetics and decorative items for their daily use. When I go to Tajul Store, I see that the shop is beautifully arranged with bangles, necklaces, earrings, hair accessories and various types of cosmetics of different colors and designs. The demand for these products increases during Eid, weddings, puja or other social events. This profession is important because on the one hand it fulfills the daily and personal needs of people, and on the other hand it creates income opportunities for people through business.

What tools or skills are used in the occupation that people in your community do?

In the cosmetics and imitation jewelry business, glass showcases, various types of racks, trays, stands and hangers are used to display products beautifully. In addition, calculators, cash boxes and currently mobile banking are also used for accounting. However, having these tools alone does not make a good businessman. In this profession, good customer service, patience, honesty, understanding of product quality and the ability to understand the needs of the buyer are very important. Since there are different types of products in the store, arranging them beautifully and being able to find the product according to the needs of the buyer like us is also an important skill for a seller.

Tell us the challenges people are facing in this occupation

There are some real challenges with this business too. Currently, the wholesale prices of various products are increasing, making it difficult for traders to maintain their previous profits. Also, due to the increasing popularity of online shopping, local shops are having to compete with online businesses .Another problem is that there are different quality products available in the market. It is important for a trader to maintain the trust of the buyer by sourcing good quality products. Because in the case of cosmetics, buyers pay attention to the quality and usability of the product.In addition, even if sales increase around festivals or special events, if there are fewer buyers at other times, the business income may also decrease. Even in these situations, traders have to operate their shops regularly.

A shop is not just a source of income for a businessman. The livelihood of many people is directly and indirectly linked to it. Shop employees, product suppliers, wholesalers and transport workers. Many people benefit from this business activity. A businessman can meet the daily expenses of his family, children's education, medical treatment and other needs with the income from his shop. Similarly, when people buy products from the local market, that money circulates back into the local business. This also benefits other traders in the market and keeps the local economy active.I myself went to this shop to buy a face cream and a face wash for myself. Our daughters need such products as part of their daily personal care. So, apart from meeting my own needs, I was also able to get involved with a local business through this small purchase.
