A visit to My Secret Refuge
The place where I can take a breath of fresh air and feel true peace is none other than our local mosque, the Bashir Muhammad Shubedar Jame Mosque. This is where I perform my regular prayers, and it is also the place where I gather with the local worshippers for religious activities.
It is located in South Sitalpur village, on the west side of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, opposite Lalbag Shipyard Road. Since prayers are held at specific times for each waqt, it remains open for worshippers at all times except late at night. It opens as soon as the time for Fajr prayer begins in the morning.

Our mosque is a single-story structure with a tin-shade roof and surrounding walls. The roof is a sturdy structure made of tin sheets. As the construction of a new mosque building is currently underway, this temporary structure was built so that the local people can continue to perform their prayers in the meantime.
Internally, the entire structure is built strongly using steel pipes and steel angles, which are properly welded and covered with tin sheets. The structure of the southern wall inside is quite unique and incorporates modern engineering, where gaps have been left between the bricks for airflow.

Every facility necessary for the worshippers to pray has been provided. The entrance gate of the mosque is made entirely of steel. In truth, no major security measures have been taken here because, as it is a mosque, security issues are generally not expected; it is considered the House of the Creator, so everyone feels safe here.

Many high-quality ceiling fans are installed on the ceiling of the structure. All of them are used during the summer so that worshippers do not face any discomfort due to the hot weather while praying.
For those who have knee or leg problems and cannot pray while standing, our mosque provides plastic chairs where they can sit and pray comfortably.
Wearing a cap on the head is a beautiful way to pray as it helps in concentration. If someone forgets to bring a cap from home, it is not an issue because high-quality caps are available in the mosque for the worshippers.
The mosque is equipped with an advanced electrical system and switches. All fans and lights can be controlled with these switches; they are easy to use, so people of all ages can operate them easily.

Additionally, our mosque has a high-quality microphone, speakers, washrooms, and beautiful facilities for performing ablution . Although the interior of our local mosque is not very luxurious, the unique steel structure and the modern concept of the brickwork make this small mosque extraordinary, and I come here daily to perform my regular prayers.
1. How did you discover this place, and what is the first thing you do when you arrive?
When I arrive at this place to offer my prayers, I silently recite the supplication for entering the mosque as I pass through the gate, because there are many blessings in doing so. I enter with my right foot as it is auspicious, and if I haven't brought a cap from home, I take one from the basket.
2. What sounds or aromas define this refuge?
The Adhan (call to prayer) identifies this place. Five times every day—at Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha—the Adhan is given over the mosque's microphone so that worshippers come to offer their prayers. The Adhan serves as an invitation; as soon as the sound is heard, the worshippers understand that the Mu'adhdhin is calling them for congregational prayer. Thus, the Adhan identifies the mosque.

3. What time of day do you prefer to visit it and why?
I try to come here for all five prayers. Occasionally, if the prayer time is nearly over, I pray at home, and during the day, I perform my daytime prayers at my workplace. I mostly come here for my evening prayers; besides that, I visit every Friday to perform the Jummah prayer.

4. If this place could talk, what secret would it tell about you?
If this place could speak for me, it could pour out all the thoughts etched in my heart. This is the only place where I surrender myself and find contentment regarding all my good and bad deeds. In this place, I speak with my Creator, share all my problems and sorrows, and express all my desires; in other words, it could reveal all my inner secrets.
