I visited my friend in the Akpata community, where I used the opportunity to visit the public square in the community. There is no specific public square in the community but the community often makes use of a school field which is large enough for a public square for political events, festivals, and any gathering that attracts a lot of people.

This place is in the Akpata community which is under the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. It is a peaceful environment that is very easy to access. To have access to this place you can either make use of a motorcycle, a car, or trek if you're within the town.

The gathering of vehicles and motorcycles is people who came from away to have access to the place. Some make use of their personal car, some take a taxi, and some trek down to the place.

There are no special facilities in the place or entrance fees, the only time there are facilities in the place is when there's something like the one that I attended which is when they will bring a speaker, a microphone 🎙️ canopies for the function. The atmosphere is beautiful due to the trees at the place.

Indeed, I had a great experience at the place as I was able to interact with some of the people at the place who enlightened me more about the purpose of the gathering. It was indeed a great experience for me to witness the speeches of some of the political contestants who are contesting for top positions in the state and at the federal level.

What kind of people bring this space to life, and is there an iconic character in it?

This place that I visited was brought to life by ordinary community people, political contestants, youths, traders, parents, local leaders, and neighbors who gather together for celebrations, meetings, and important discussions.

It is a place where everyone's presence matters. The iconic characters are often the respected politicians, elders, and outspoken community figures who guide conversation and keep the whole crowd united.

When you visit, are you the type to talk and interact, or do you prefer to be a silent observer?

When I visited the place I kept silent and observed the place by listening to the conversations and feeling the energy of the gathering which I also observed the movements around. After spending about 10 minutes at the place I then interacted with someone who told me much about the gathering.

What is your most special memory from your childhood or youth tied to this place? Or an anecdote that happened there.

Attending a big community gathering or festival with family members is my most special memory from my childhood. The excitement of seeing a large crowd of people, sitting with friends, listening to music, speeches, and watching people from different backgrounds come together to create unforgettable memories.

In one word or short phrase, how would you define the spirit of this place?

"Unity in Diversity" is how I would define the spirit of this place because it reflects community participation, togetherness, and shared identity of all the people who gathered at the place.
