I hope you are all doing well and enjoying another wonderful week of the Steemit Learning Challenge Season 32. Before starting my participation, I would sincerely like to thank @oswaldocuarta for proposing another interesting theme that encourages us not only to discover beautiful places but also to share them with the entire Steemit community through our own experiences, emotions and photographs. During the previous weeks, we travelled together through markets, restaurants, parks, entertainment places and study areas, while this final challenge gives us the opportunity to introduce what we personally consider to be the best place according to different categories.

Among all the proposed options, I immediately chose "The Best Place for Taking Photos", because during my recent trip to Montreal, Canada, I visited a place that completely exceeded my expectations. Although I had seen many pictures of Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal on the Internet before travelling, I quickly realized that no photograph could truly convey the grandeur, serenity and unique atmosphere that surrounds this magnificent sanctuary. As soon as I arrived, I understood why it is considered one of the most visited landmarks in Canada and why thousands of photographers, tourists and pilgrims come here every year from every corner of the world.

A first impression that I will never forget

As I approached the sanctuary, I found myself standing at the bottom of the enormous staircase that leads visitors to the main entrance, and for a few moments I simply stopped walking because I wanted to admire the impressive architecture rising in front of me. The illuminated dome dominated the night sky, while the elegant stone façade reflected the soft lights installed all around the building, creating an atmosphere that was both peaceful and majestic. It was impossible not to take a selfie at that exact moment because I wanted to preserve the memory of my first encounter with one of the most beautiful monuments I have ever visited during my travels.

What immediately impressed me was not only the extraordinary size of the Oratory but also the silence that surrounded the place. Despite the presence of many visitors, everyone seemed naturally inclined to speak softly and simply enjoy the calm atmosphere, making the entire experience even more special.

A staircase that becomes part of the photographic experience

The monumental staircase is much more than a simple access to the basilica because it gradually prepares visitors for what they are about to discover. As I slowly climbed each step, I found myself stopping several times, not because the staircase was long, but because every few metres the perspective changed completely and offered a new opportunity to capture another beautiful photograph. Looking upwards, the dome appeared increasingly impressive, while turning around revealed an ever wider view of the city below, making every pause worthwhile.

One of the things I appreciated most was how carefully everything had been designed. The symmetry of the stairs, the elegant handrails and the perfectly aligned lighting naturally guide the eyes toward the sanctuary, making it almost impossible to take an unattractive photograph.

A masterpiece of architecture illuminated by the night

When I finally reached the upper level, I stood directly in front of the basilica and spent several minutes simply observing every architectural detail before even thinking about taking another picture. The massive Corinthian columns, the carefully carved stone decorations and the enormous dome together create a building whose beauty cannot be fully appreciated in only a few minutes.

Nightfall gives the Oratory a completely different personality. During the day, visitors mainly admire its architectural elegance, but once darkness arrives and the exterior lighting is switched on, the entire building seems to come alive. Warm lights emphasize every column, every window and every decorative element, producing a spectacular contrast against the deep blue Canadian sky. It is precisely this transformation that makes Saint Joseph's Oratory one of the best places for night photography in Montreal.

Discovering the remarkable sculpture "Angels Unawares"

While walking around the sanctuary, I unexpectedly came across one of the most meaningful works of art I have ever seen during my travels. The monumental bronze sculpture "Angels Unawares", created by internationally renowned Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz, immediately attracted my attention because of its impressive realism and the emotion it conveys.

At first glance, the sculpture appears to represent a crowded boat carrying dozens of anonymous people, but after observing it more carefully, I began to recognize men, women, children and elderly people representing migrants and refugees from different civilizations, historical periods and cultures. Hidden among these human figures are angels whose wings only become visible from certain viewpoints, reminding us of the biblical message that strangers should always be welcomed with kindness because, without realizing it, we may sometimes be welcoming angels.

The longer I looked at this sculpture, the more details I discovered, and I found myself taking numerous photographs from different angles because every position revealed something new.

Understanding the story behind the sculpture

Just beside the sculpture, an information panel explains its history and symbolism in both French and English. I always enjoy reading these descriptions because they allow me to better understand the cultural and historical importance of the places I visit, and this time was no exception.

I learned that "Angels Unawares" was inaugurated in 2019 and that several replicas have been installed in different parts of the world, including Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City, where Pope Francis officially presented the sculpture during the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. Knowing this fascinating background transformed what initially seemed to be an impressive work of art into an even more meaningful symbol of hospitality, compassion and respect for all human beings.

After exploring the sanctuary, I walked toward one of the observation areas overlooking Montreal, and the view that appeared before my eyes was absolutely breathtaking. Thousands of city lights stretched toward the horizon, while parks, buildings and streets formed an impressive urban landscape illuminated beneath the clear summer night.

Standing there for several minutes, I understood why so many visitors choose to spend part of their evening here. Whether someone enjoys photography or simply wants a peaceful place to admire the city, this viewpoint offers an unforgettable experience that perfectly complements the beauty of the sanctuary itself.

Although the Oratory itself is extraordinary, what made this visit truly unforgettable was sharing it with my son. Walking together through the gardens, climbing the monumental staircase and discovering every corner of the sanctuary transformed a simple tourist visit into a precious family memory that we will both remember for many years.

Travelling is not only about discovering famous monuments or taking beautiful photographs. It is also about creating moments that strengthen family bonds, encourage curiosity and allow children to discover different cultures and places that they may one day revisit themselves.

Every side of the building deserves to be photographed

Before leaving, I decided to walk around the sanctuary one last time because I was convinced that there were still new perspectives waiting to be discovered. I was absolutely right. From the side of the building, the impressive dome appears even larger, while the illuminated windows and elegant stone walls create a completely different atmosphere compared with the main entrance.

It became clear to me that Saint Joseph's Oratory is one of those rare places where every path, every staircase and every corner offers photographers a completely new composition, making it almost impossible to stop taking pictures.

Without any hesitation, I can honestly say that Saint Joseph's Oratory became one of my favourite places during my stay in Montreal. Beyond its remarkable architecture, I was deeply touched by the peaceful atmosphere, the meaningful works of art, the magnificent panoramic views and the overall feeling of serenity that accompanies visitors throughout their walk. It is one of those rare places where architecture, spirituality, history, culture and nature coexist perfectly, allowing every visitor to experience something different according to their own interests.

If someone asked me to recommend only one place in Montreal for photography, I would immediately choose Saint Joseph's Oratory because it offers everything a photographer could wish for: monumental architecture, spectacular lighting, breathtaking viewpoints, artistic sculptures and unforgettable family memories.

If I had to associate a musical style with Saint Joseph's Oratory, I would choose a soft classical orchestra accompanied by a choir, because this combination perfectly reflects the peaceful atmosphere, the elegance of the architecture and the feeling of serenity that visitors naturally experience while exploring this extraordinary sanctuary.

If I were given the opportunity to leave a time capsule at this remarkable place, I would place inside it one of the family photographs taken during this visit together with a handwritten message saying:
