SLC-S32/W3 | Frames of My World : People & Everyday Life
Where is this place located?
This place is located in the Gangachara area of Rangpur. Today I will post about farmers and fishermen. I took pictures of their lifestyle and work.
Who are the people featured in your photographs and what are they doing?
The picture I took shows farmers and fishermen. The farmers were working in the fields. One farmer was plowing with a cow. And the other farmers were harvesting rice. The farmers' job is to work on these lands. And the fishermen were fishing. The fishermen's job is to always move around in the water. They move around in the water and catch fish.
How do these people contribute to the local community or economy?
Both farmers and fishermen work as the backbone of the local economy and society. Farmers meet the daily food needs of the local population by growing crops and fishermen by catching fish. Agriculture and fisheries create a huge area of employment at the local level. The produced crops and fish are sold in the local market. Around which small and medium businesses are developed. This keeps the local money flowing. Farming and fishing are not just professions. They are a long-standing social tradition of rural life. They are an integral part of festivals and culture. Social bonds are strengthened through teamwork, exchange practices, and mutual cooperation during farming and fishing.
What did you learn or observe while spending time in this place?
From the experience of spending time with farmers and fishermen, the struggle of people's lives. A deep picture of dependence on nature emerges. People in both professions, farmers and fishermen, are completely dependent on the laws of nature. They can very subtly understand the changes in seasons, wind speed, and water currents. Which is more effective than modern machinery. Their lives are very difficult. The long wait and patience for the farmer to grow his crops and the fisherman to catch his fish are the biggest characteristics of their character.
What story or emotion do you think your photographs convey about everyday life?
The photographs I take portray the image of the village. In the village, plowing is still done with cows. Nowadays, with the advent of modern machinery, ploughing with oxen is very rare. Besides, machines are also used to harvest rice now. Manual harvesting of rice is very rare. Besides, fishing is not seen in the city these days. This scene is noticeable because there are many ponds in the village.
