Scientists watch a memory to form in a living brain/Científicos observan cómo se forma un recuerdo en un cerebro vivo

The team was able to record the memories that form in the brains of laboratory zebrafish genetically engineered to produce neurons with a fluorescent protein marker attached to their synapses, observing the green fluorescent flashes produced by the synapses under the microscope.

These fish are not endowed with an amygdala, a structure located in the temporal lobe of mammals traditionally related to the emotional and fear-regulating system, but they do have a similar region called the pallium where associative memories are formed and much more accessible for study than the mammalian amygdala.

In Zebra fish, the deep centers of the brain are close to the surface where we can visualize them, in addition, their larvae are transparent, which greatly facilitates the work of researchers who can directly observe their brains and the fluorescence that occurs in the synapses.

To induce a memory in their brains, the scientists conditioned the zebrafish larvae to associate a light with uncomfortable heat, after which the larvae swam away as soon as they saw the light without waiting to feel the heat, meanwhile the scientists took images of the pallium before and after the fish learned this behavior.
They then studied changes in the strength and location of the pallium synapse before and after learning and found that while synaptic strengths remained the same, in the trained fish these synapses were pruned in some areas of the pallium and replanted in others.

Hello @mauromar, Putting this scientific advance into practice with humans would allow us to know the ability to recover "lost" memories in the person's memory from childhood to the present, and would even allow me to think that this could also give us some answers about Alzheimer's.
I am very curious about this that I have read in your post.
Greetings @mauromar there is still a long way to go in the knowledge and approach of our brain, however, it is a breakthrough that you give us to know that brings science closer to the neuronal functioning. Greetings
Hello @mauromar
It must be very interesting the process these scientists go through to be able to discover all these processes.
Although I know it may be something that is not for everyone, because they are slow processes, and to be able to deduce everything they discover takes time. One only sees the results and is impressed, but, you have to see the "behind the scenes" to see how it is.
This is a very good finding and will definitely come handy when applied to human memories for easy recovery of lost memory thanks for sharing a nice piece.
This achievement is really amazing, since it is the first time that it is observed how the brain creates a memory, this great advance opens the doors so that memory can be manipulated in the future. In that near future. We are no longer going to have to worry about the pain that a sentimental separation causes us, since we will only have to go to the specialist and have him erase all the memories of that old relationship.
Scientist are behind of controlling human mind for many years
Estos avances tecnológicos son muy interesantes. Tal vez esto, en un futuro, ayude a las personas que padecen algún transtorno mental. Gracias por compartir. Saludos
