In simple terms, Meerut College is valued for its tradition, academic variety, and central role in higher education in Meerut.
Its campus is spread over about 50 acres with large sized classrooms, laboratories, a central library, computer facilities, a gym, National Cadet Corps and NSS offices besides basic student services like canteen.

The college has multiple and different hostels for boys and girls.
Now I will answer your questions:
Why is this place important to the history of your city or country?
This college is important because it is one of the oldest higher-education institutions in this part of the India and is a major center of learning. As you have asked about its history is closely linked with the city’s growth in education and public life, and it has produced many leaders, scholars, and professionals who contributed in development of the nation.

It also matters in India’s freedom story. The college students and teachers took part in the independence movement, as during 1942 it became the center of "Quit India Movement."
Another notable historical link is that leaders like Mahatma Gandhi who is known as father of the nation and Jayaprakash Narayan one of the greatest socialist leaders India ever produced addressed students in this college.
They were the role models of Indians who showed the path to freedome and this college played a major role in India's freedom.
I can say Meerut College is not just an educational institution but a heritage site in area's identity and a symbol of the city’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
How is the site preserved today? Does it still serve its original purpose?
Sure, Meerut College still serves its original purpose as an institution of higher learning rather it has grown in stature . It continues to offer UG, PG, and doctoral programs, and if you check its official site you will know that its academic teaching, laboratory-based learning, and student activities increasing every year.

Meerut college remains a traditional college but it at the same time time it offers a modern campus with professional courses, digital facilities, and active academic events. The college is constantly adapting current educational needs and also while keeping its heritage identity.
However, the college has raised its bar higher in education, training, and character-building for students which changed the scope from a college to a broader, more updated institution serving modern career paths for its students as well.

What do you feel when you visit this place that represents the pride of your people?
I am no more a student or too old but I feel proud whenever I visit this college because it stands as a symbol of the heritage, learning, and identity of my area.
Its long history, respected academic reputation, and role in shaping generations of students make it more than just a college. My visit reminds me that this place is not only an institution, but also a source of pride for the whole region.

If you could describe the energy of the place in three words, what would they be?
If I have to use just three words, my words are
- Historic
- Vibrant
- Inspiring

Yes, every oldest university has a long history. It's important to understand the roots and development of knowledge, identity, and pride. It's not about the grand building, but, as you wrote, Meerut College played a crucial role in India's independence history, as well as its long academic history, encompassing various disciplines.
Almost every university in the world has its own historical significance. Similarly, in our country, Syiah Kuala is the oldest university in Aceh province, founded in 1961. Syiah Kuala was the brainchild of the Acehnese people who wanted an educational institution as a center of higher education in the field of economics, with the first faculty being established in 1959.
We learned many important lessons from your visit to Meerut College. Not only its history and academic reputation, but each visit fosters a sense of emotion and pride for us, as Meerut College represents a legacy of knowledge, history, and culture unlike any other university.
Great post! I wish you success in this exciting challenge, sir @dove11 🙏
Thanks for sharing Syiah Kuala University's inspiring story as it definitely matches as Aceh's educational to Meerut College's legacy in India's independence and academics. As I said I am well past the age of going to colleges but such visits indeed bring pride of shared roots of knowledge and culture.
By the way, I have just read your country has found a large chunk of natural gas which should bring a lot of money and self sufficiency to your country. All the best.
..Yes, reportedly located in the Andalam Block, in the waters north of Aceh province, its potential reaches over 10 trillion cubic feet. This is a very significant amount and can hopefully be utilized effectively for development, especially for the welfare of the community.
Thank you very much for this interesting feedback, my friend.
