One of the most important and promising applications of this technology is decentralized finance or DeFi. This technology has created the opportunity to automatically manage transactions, lending, borrowing or trading through coding, eliminating traditional banking or financial intermediaries. And the main driving force of this entire system is smart contracts. However, a fundamental feature of blockchain is immutability, meaning that once a smart contract is deployed on the main blockchain, it cannot be changed or modified in any way. As a result, if there is a small loophole, logical error or bug in the code, hackers can take advantage of it and seize billions of dollars of digital assets in an instant. To stay free from this serious risk and to build a secure and reliable platform, smart contract testing and DeFi auditing were invented. Smart contract testing is a very early and essential step in the development cycle. It is basically the work of a developer or internal team, where the code is tested for proper functionality, security, and business logic before it is made live on the blockchain. In the testing process, each small function or code segment of the smart contract is tested separately, which is called unit testing. In addition, when multiple smart contracts work together, integration testing is done to ensure that their internal communication and data exchange are working properly. In addition, modern methods such as fuzz testing are applied to find potential vulnerabilities without running the code or running it in a simulated environment with the help of various automated tools, as well as to verify the tolerance of the code with unexpected inputs. Only after the initial step of smart contract testing is successfully completed, DeFi auditing begins. It is basically a very high-quality, professional, and impartial security review system. Auditing is usually done by a third-party independent security firm or international expert auditors. The main purpose of auditing is to thoroughly analyze the security architecture of the entire project before making a final decision to deploy the code on the main network. In this process, auditors place the most emphasis on manual review. Because while automated tools can catch simple mistakes, automated tools cannot catch complex business logic errors made by humans or subtle and serious security threats such as re-entrancy attacks, flash loan attacks, and front-running. DeFi auditing has a specific and professional methodology. Initially, auditors thoroughly review the project's original whitepaper and technical documentation to understand the business logic of the entire system. Then, they manually scan each line of code to identify security risks and test the project's security wall by creating simulations of possible cyber attacks. At the end of the audit, the auditing firm publishes a comprehensive report, where the vulnerabilities detected are categorized as critical, high, medium, or low according to their risk severity. Based on this report, if the developer team resolves the code issues, the auditors re-examine it and issue a final audit certificate. The importance and contribution of smart contract testing and auditing in the DeFi ecosystem is far-reaching. First, an audit report from a trusted security firm increases the trust of ordinary users and large investors in a DeFi project. Second, it greatly reduces the risk of hacking or theft of funds from the platform, keeping investors' billions of dollars safe. Finally, in the world of blockchain technology, smart contract testing and DeFi auditing are not an additional or optional feature, but rather the main foundation and key to security for building a successful and sustainable DeFi project.
