Footsteps of Memory in the Silent Night of Amiens

Hello, my dear Steemit family! I hope you are all well and healthy wherever you are. Today I am back with you after a long time to participate in a very wonderful competition. This art and literature event of the "Venezuelan Steam" community is truly commendable.

The artworks of the painter Frits Thaulow have fascinated me so much that I could not stop myself. Especially his immortal creation of 1897, "Midnight in Amiens". This small effort of mine today is around this painting.

The darkness of the night always brings a mysterious depth. Looking at this painting by Thaulow, I feel like I am standing on an old bridge in the city of Amiens. The calm waters of the narrow canal flowing through the city act as a huge mirror.

When the ancient buildings along the canal are immersed in the silence of the night, the yellowish light pouring through the windows of the houses paints an unearthly picture on the water. The waves of the canal are so subtle that it seems as if the water is still and sleeping here, while thousands of unspoken words are hidden in its depths.

The bluish-black hue of this picture creates a strange mixture of loneliness and tranquillity in our minds. When the city is tired and sleeps at the end of the day's hustle and bustle, the water of this canal seems to be the soul of the city. Thaulo's use of colour is so perfect that it seems that I can feel the icy touch of the canal water.

This environment makes us think that human life may also be like the water of this canal. Sometimes still, sometimes flowing, and always carrying the reflection of some memory. The artist has created a wonderful combination of reality and imagination here, which takes me back to the past again and again as a viewer.

In fact, the meaning of art lies in that which expands our world of thought. That midnight scene in Amiens is not just a picture of a city; it is the name of a deep feeling.
