Charles Conder nació en Tottenham el 24 de octubre de 1868. Este distinguido artista plástico llevaba el arte en las venas, pues era descendiente del escultor Louis Francois Roubiliac. Sin embargo, su padre, el ingeniero James Conder hizo hasta lo imposible para alejar a su hijo de las artes. Fue así como a los 16 años lo envió a Sidney (Australia) con su tío para que trabajara como agrimensor, esta es una profesión que se encarga de medir, delimitar y estudiar terrenos y propiedades.

Lo cierto es que Charles siguió su instinto artístico y en 1886 fue contratado como ilustrador en el Sidney News; y en el año 1890 se matriculó en la Academia Julián de París. Allí se adentró en el arte simbolista.

En el año 1902 contrajo nupcias con Stella Maris Bradford, una viuda millonaria, lo cual le permitió al artista llevar una vida sin carencias económicas.

El último año de su vida, Charles sufría de delirios mentales, razón por la cual estuvo internado en una clínica psiquiátrica. Falleció el 9 de febrero de 1909 en Londres a causa de una sífilis.

Sometimes, wanting to do things isn't enough to actually do them. Throughout the 188 editions of this contest, I think this is the first time I've been so late in introducing you to a new painter who will inspire you to write. The reason for my "slowness" in posting is mainly due to the power outages we're experiencing in Venezuela, which prevent us from maintaining our work rhythms. Well, I know you'll all understand.

Now let's make up for lost time. For this 188th edition, I bring you the visual artist Charles Edward Conder:

Charles Conder was born in Tottenham on October 24, 1868. This distinguished visual artist had art in his blood, as he was a descendant of the sculptor Louis Francois Roubiliac. However, his father, the engineer James Conder, did everything possible to keep his son away from the arts. Thus, at the age of 16, he sent him to Sydney, Australia, to work with his uncle as a surveyor, a profession that involves measuring, delimiting, and studying land and properties.

The truth is that Charles followed his artistic instincts and in 1886 was hired as an illustrator for the Sydney News; and in 1890 he enrolled at the Académie Julian in Paris. There he immersed himself in Symbolist art.

In 1902, he married Stella Maris Bradford, a wealthy widow, which allowed the artist to live a life free from financial hardship.

During the last year of his life, Charles suffered from mental delusions, which led to his hospitalization in a psychiatric clinic. He died on February 9, 1909, in London from syphilis.
