Sus primeros estudios de pintura los realizó en la Lambeth School of Art y, después, entre los años 1874y 1879, estudió en la Royal Academy de Londres.

Entre los años 1881 y 1882 se radicó en la costa de Bretaña y allá pintaba al aire libre.

En 1886 regresó a Inglaterra y expuso sus obras en las mejores galerías de ese país.

Recibió el nombramiento de miembro asociado de la Royal Academy en el año 1898; luego en 1912 fue miembro pleno de esta institución.

Viajó mucho por Europa, justo antes del estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial.

Los críticos de arte ubican sus obras dentro del movimiento pictórico: naturalismo y del impresionismo tardío.

Falleció el 21 de diciembre de 1929 en Londres.

This distinguished visual artist was born on January 19, 1859, in Croydon, a suburb of London.

He began his painting studies at the Lambeth School of Art and later, between 1874 and 1879, studied at the Royal Academy in London.

Between 1881 and 1882, he lived on the coast of Brittany, where he painted outdoors.

In 1886, he returned to England and exhibited his works in the country's finest galleries.

He was appointed an Associate Member of the Royal Academy in 1898; then, in 1912, he became a Full Member of this institution.

He traveled extensively throughout Europe just before the outbreak of the First World War.

Art critics place his works within the painting movements of Naturalism and Late Impressionism.

He died on December 21, 1929, in London.
