Hidden potential.
Hidden potential.
Sometimes we're surrounded by completely useless objects, the kind we can't think of a use for.
Recycling is the easiest way to get rid of such items, and that's often exactly what I do.
But perhaps something has to happen to change the way we look at things; there has to be some kind of trigger, some kind of circumstance.
Recently, I opened my bag of metalworking tools and hardware and saw several bearings that had been lying there unused for years.
I didn't know what to do with them, but it was a shame to throw them away.
And then I learned that a couple of bearings can be used to make a hand-held device for bending sheet metal, or a roller shear for sheet metal by filing the edges of the bearings to a right angle.
Furthermore, this is only a small part of their possible uses; they can also be used to create a sliding carriage for a circular saw or a router.
Essentially, all that's left is to look around and find the missing components of products or similar objects with hidden potential.
Even those three nails in the wooden fence can be looked at differently.
For example, they can be used to bend small-diameter rebar at the desired angle, or simply hang a jacket on a nail on a hot day.
Sometimes, drilling a hole in wood is easier than plugging the hole when needed. While it may not always be perfect, nature has taken care of this itself, without any extra effort, and we see the potential of this spot, a once-cut tree limb that becomes the perfect plug.
It's good that people don't rush to throw away everything unnecessary and unusable. For example, the old narrow-gauge children's railway waited until people decided to restore it, and there are many villagers who would make a blacksmith's anvil out of a piece of rails, while others would decide to make some money and sell it to a scrap yard. :)
