There are many sciences that pursue the goal of improving something by destroying it.
Yes, it sounds strange, and perhaps one of the pioneers of this method was the man who broke off the arms of the statue of Venus de Milo (lol), but we're not talking about them, but about gardeners who periodically shape tree crowns by mercilessly pruning them.
In nature, this is not normal, as if someone told you that your legs are in the way of your arms, sapping their vitality.
But it works, and it benefits either the gardener, who gets what he wants—a larger harvest in the case of fruit trees—or the tree, by relieving unnecessary strain
But if the gardener can boast of the results of his work, the trees are forced to tacitly agree with him.
