Something that should remain a joke.
There are proverbs that sound very grand and very much like a route to follow, but in reality they're just a joke, and it's good when those who hear them understand this.
One such proverb urges us not to look for easy ways, saying that everything should be done as those who refused to bypass obstacles on the way did, but rather, to force their way through.
I've often met people who haven't heard the joke about the man and the monkey and their coconut-gathering methods: Why think? Shake the tree!
That's exactly what those who follow the proverb about easy ways do, but sometimes, before you go somewhere, it's better to think carefully.
But when you've gone somewhere far, there's no road all around, and you're very tired, then thinking isn't really an option; you take the shortcut, knee-deep in mud.
We need to look for easy ways; they're out there, but they're well hidden.
