I thought pig could eat anything but I was wrong...
Hello Steemians,
Well, Is high time I share what I have been working on quietly behind the scenes and has kept me absent from steemit for a while now.
For some of my friends that have been following me for awhile, this won't be news to them because I've always had plans to invest in agriculture. My ideal business was either fishery or poultry. But recently I decided to try another option, which is pig farming.
My brother inlaw just got a large piece of land and decided to venture into pig farming business. I got in touch with him, so I could tag along whenever he's going to his farm. That way it will be easier to learn the ropes before putting my money were my mouth is.
But one thing I've come to realise during this short while is that , rearing pigs is not for the faint hearted especially lwhen it comes to their feeding. I've always had this mindset that since pigs are popularly known as dirty animals , they can as well eat anything that is thrown at them.
Before now, I see pigs in muds or waste bins scrapping for food to eat and you see them looking so big like hippopotamus but after spending some time with them, it has completely changed my mindset.
This breeds of pigs are too selectively when It comes to their feeds. Their food has to be carefully prepared to keep them strong and healthy. Already we've lost 5 piglets so far as a result of poor nutrition.
Well, because of my office work, I've not been too consistent in the farm but the times I've been there, I take time to ask the necessary questions needed and the more I learn, the more I realised that agriculture is far more than just passion. Knowledge is really key in running the business.
