My Actifit Report Card: August 1 2019
Hi guys! Today was another work day, but in order to give you an idea of the ‘state’ I was in....well you have to back up to last night.
It was after midnight when I was able to get to bed. My husband had just climbed in bed as I was brushing my teeth. Anyway, I climbed into bed and was trying to drift off to sleep when our youngest kitty jumped in bed. Nothing out of the ordinary here as he often snuggles before he starts his nightly house wandering. Suddenly, he became very animated and was acting like he had a mouse flinging it around. He ran to and fro on the bed; would jump down. At that point, his older brother joined the merry chase. That’s when I noticed a shadow being cast by the nightlight in the bathroom. At first I thought it was a moth, but given my kitties agitation and the fact that I then noticed it really flying about, that it began to dawn on me that it was not a moth but had the body movements of a bat! So I got up and turned on the light only to find that was exactly what it was! Holy cow, we had a bat in our bedroom. So I started yelling at my husband to wake up because we have a bat in the house, the cats are gonna eat it ( and maybe contract rabies) and I didn’t know what we were gonna do!!😳 So, he grabbed our youngest kitty and I shooed the other one out of the bedroom. After they were both out, we closed the door and looked at each other as if to say ‘ok, now what?’ By that time Batty had landed in the skylight and had found a place to roost upside down as bats do. So, Mike heads out of the bedroom leaving me and Batty alone! I was afraid to leave for fear he’d fly to a new location in the bedroom and I’d never find him. What seemed like an eternity later, Mike came back in full armor-long sleeve sweatshirt, glasses, hat and gloves. While he had been gone, I had been running various scenarios through my head trying to figure a way for Batty to leave in one piece. I didn’t really want to kill him-besides, that would leave a huge mess on the tongue and groove spruce in the skylight well and then the squished bat would land in the bed!🙀 Not an option. So I suggested that if he could unscrew the skylight from the outside and lift it off, maybe he’d fly out. So, off he went to climb the roof. It’s now going on 2 AM! As luck would have it, Mike had just sealed the skylight a couple of weeks ago with some super duper caulk. It wouldn’t budge!! He came back and I said too bad that we didn’t have a butterfly net. Well, that gave him the idea that we might could tape the large aquarium fishnet we had to a broom handle. I was skeptical as it’s not that big. So he went to get that fixed and he came back into the bedroom. Batty was out for the count having apparently found a nice nook to spend the night.
The plan was to trap Batty between the wall and the net and then bring him down quickly to deposit the net and him into a five gallon bucket. Well, the best laid plans..... he missed and Batty now resides on the floor mostly under the net. So, I grabbed a paper plate from the kitchen and worked that between him and the floor. We got him deposited into the bucket and began the journey through the house to get outside. We finally made it and dropped the bucket and all. I went to get a flashlight to make sure he wasn’t trapped. Bat GONE !!😳
Then began the task of trying to find out how he got in! Eventually, around 3 AM, we got back in bed. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time watching the shadows waiting for another bat to appear. NOT a good night’s sleep!
The day passed in a state of semi consciousness for me, lol. Tonight, I find myself looking over my shoulder for a bat. Here’s to a good night’s sleep, lol!
Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of Batty to share, lol! I was just a bit too busy to think of my phone!
That’s it for now. Have a good day wherever you are and watch out for Batty!!🤪

The cats did a good job of alerting you, they should get a treat. Lol.
They always get a good treat. Every morning as I go to prepare mine and my husband's espresso, they know mom will give them their 'breakfast'. It's special cat food and kitty treats kept in a special jar and is breakfast and snack material. Even in the afternoon, if I head for the espresso machine, there they are. They have me wrapped around the little kitty paws for sure, LOL!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.
Well you had some extra steps. Do you know all mammals can have rabies, mice too.
It would be the last thing I would be afraid of and would run for my camera.
I am happy you did not squeeze it I love 🦇🦇🦇

Hurting it or killing it wasn't an option, really. I was just not sure how to get it out at first. If it hadn't been the middle of the night, I might have taken a bit of time to look at and observe before catching it, but I had work the next day and needed sleep badly. I've always been kind of fond of bats anyway.
I didn't know that about mice and whatnot, but I use live traps and release way out on the back forty, hoping they don't find their way back into the house. I've been known to 'out mouse the cat' before.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Have a nice day.
I wish you a great day too. I liked reading your adventure 👍🏻 💕
