As much as I would have loved to shoot that dog, I'm pretty sure that game bombed at the arcades. Once you got to shoot the dog, the player could finally feel gratified knowing that they no longer needed to feed the game anymore quarters.
One arcade game that always frustrated the hell out of me, and ate all my quarters was that damn Dragon's Lair game. I felt like a game tester, watching the same animated screen over and over, and then getting an instant game over moments later, every time, expecting a different results if I just timed my action differently. That game was as clear as mud in regards to how to play it it, and when to hit the button. The cartoon graphics, audio, and music were just too amazing to ignore though.
